Exploring the Relationship between Online Privacy on Cyber Security

Abstract: The aim of this research is to explore the relationship between online privacy and cyber
security. With the birth of the internet and the recent revolution in technology, people have taken to the internet by storm - to do their online shopping and to connect to friends via social media. Online privacy has become a great concern to many while attitudes on security are still maturing. This thesis is based on a quantitative research methodology. The first part of the report looks into the definitions of privacy, cyber security and also the relationship between these two terms. The second part of the research incorporates the findings of a survey that was conducted as part of the thesis. The research
found that while people are consciously trying to improve their online privacy, they seem to be subconsciously lowering the barriers on their privacy.
