  1. 11. Thermo-mechanical fatigue crack propagation in a single-crystal turbine blade

    University essay from Linköpings universitet/Mekanik och hållfasthetslära

    Author : Andreas Koernig; Nicke Andersson; [2016]
    Keywords : Thermo-mechanical fatigue; crack propagation; single-crystal; turbine blade; FRANC3D;

    Abstract : Simulation of crack growth in the internal cooling system of a blade in a Siemens gas turbine has been studied by inserting and propagating cracks at appropriate locations. The softwares used are ABAQUS and FRANC3D, where the latter supports finite element meshing of a crack and calculation of the stress intensities along the crack front based on the results from an external finite element program. 2. 12. Thermo-mechanical fatigue of castiron for engine applications

    University essay from KTH/Maskinkonstruktion (Inst.)

    Author : Niklas Collin; [2014]
    Keywords : Thermo-mechanical fatigue; TMF; CGI; LGI; fatigue; thermal strain.; Termomekanisk utmattning; TMF; CGI; LGI; termisk töjning.;

    Abstract : In an engine component the repeated start-stop cycles cause temporal and local inhomogeneous temperatures, which in turn lead to a type of low-frequency loading, plastic deformation and eventually failure due to thermo-mechanical fatigue. Simultaneously, high-frequency mechanical loading arises from the cyclic combustion pressure and from road induced vibrations. READ MORE

  4. 14. Simulation of thermal stresses in a disc brake

    University essay from JTH. Forskningsmiljö Produktutveckling - Simulering och optimering

    Author : Jiyue Tao; Asnaf Aziz; [2012]
    Keywords : DISC BRAKE; ABAQUS; FATIGUE ANALYSIS; PLASTICITY; FLOW RULE; HARDENING; STRESS AND STAIN ANANLYSIS;

    Abstract : The heat flux produced from the friction between a disc and pad system leads to a high temperature which causes thermal stresses in the disc and after a number of repeated braking cycles, cracks might be initiated. The finite element analysis (FEA) is performed to determine the temperatures profile in the disc and to analyze the stresses for the repeated braking, which could be used to calculate the fatigue life of a disc. 5. 15. Weld Analysis in Combustion Chambers Subjected to Thermo-Mechanical Fatigue Load Conditions

    University essay from Hållfasthetslära

    Author : Johnny Johansson; [2011]
    Keywords : Weld; analysis; TMF; fatigue;

    Abstract : At cyclic operation of gas turbines, components are subjected to thermo-mechanical fatigue (TMF) due to the high temperature gradients that arises. In this thesis life assessment of welds in combustion chambers are at focus. READ MORE
