Abstract: In the city of Kungälv, there are many important green areas without park lightning. This makes it unsafe to walk through the city's most attractive surroundings during many parts of the year. Partly in general and partly specifically for Kungälv, this paper shows that there are strong long-term arguments for making parks available by the use of lightning. This is not about lightening up the whole city, but finding the important green communication paths and parks. This paper also reflects upon how to lighten up these green communication paths and parks for best result. That is a question about creating good sight conditions – safe and attractive parks which attracts people to use them. Offering a city's inhabitants good and attractive alternatives to using the car is an important task for city planers. Well planned green paths could be such an alternative – and to work for an increased use of those could be an important tool in the fight against health problems as well as pollution. The paper consists of four parts, of which the first one is a literature study with discussions around park lightning from different perspectives. The second part is a program for park lightning for two parks in Kungälv. The third part is a full scale test lightning in one of these parks with the aim to put attention to my degree project and to show how you can give form by the use of lighning. Finaly, the last part is a concluding discussion considering the whole project. The degree project has been in progress on half-time during 2007. It has been an instructive time, during which I have achieved both greater understanding for the imortance of parks in cities, and also greater knowledge about lighning in parks. The arrangement of a test lightning in full scale with all the challenges, contacs and coordinations that meant, was very useful and developing for me.
