  1. 11. Oolites from the Arabian platform: Archives for the aftermath of the end-Triassic mass extinction

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Johannes Greiff; [2021]
    Keywords : sedimentology; carbonates; geochemistry; oolites; ooids; thrombolites; microbialites; Triassic; Jurassic; Hettangian; extinction; United Arab Emirates; Wadi Ghalilah; Wadi Milaha; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : The end-Triassic mass extinction (ETME) which occurred around 201 Ma is known as one of “the big five” mass extinction events of the Phanerozoic eon. Its effects were most severe on marine ecosystems, resulting in a global decline of invertebrate taxa and the complete extinction of the conodonts. READ MORE

  2. 12. Unraveling the Tectonic History of the Aurek Metagabbro within the Seve Nappe Complex, Scandinavian Caledonides

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Sabine Rousku; [2021]
    Keywords : Scandinavian Caledonides; Seve Nappe Complex; Aurek metagabbro; Kebnekaise Mountains; Zircon U-Pb Geochronology; Thermodynamic modeling; Geochemistry; Skandinaviska Kaledoniderna; Seveskollan; Aurek metagabbro; Kebnekaisebergen; zirkon U-Pb geokronologi; Termodynamisk modellering; Geokemi;

    Abstract : The Scandinavian Caledonides form a mountain range comprising nappe stacks of numerous far-travelled thrust sheets. The thrust sheets consist of diverse lithologies representing pre- and synorogenic sedimentary and igneous rocks subsequently metamorphosed to various degrees, from the Late Neoproterozoic to Middle Devonian. 3. 13. Reconstructing Weathering and Climate Trends on Loess Deposits in NW France Using XRF Analysis

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Hanna Andersson; [2021]
    Keywords : geochemistry; loess; XRF; weathering; climate change; N-W France;

    Abstract : Analyzing climate changes by loess sediment deposits formed after the last glacial maximum gives us information about how the environment was dynamically before humans physically could record climate changes. Sampling and analyzing loess from different places in the world give us a more reliable view of when events and changes in climate took place. READ MORE

  4. 14. Carbon Storage in Quaternary Deposits of the Circum-Arctic Permafrost Region

    University essay from Stockholms universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi

    Author : Annegret Udke; [2021]
    Keywords : Quaternary deposits; Carbon storage; Permafrost region; Organic Geochemistry; Sedimentology; Vulnerability; Thermokarst;

    Abstract : Rapid warming in northern latitudes will lead to permafrost thaw and subsequent carbon remobilisation and release to the atmosphere. To incorporate the permafrost carbon climate feedback in globalEarth System Models, it is of importance to know the carbon stored in the circumArctic permafrostregion as accurate and precise as possible. 5. 15. Resolving temporal links between the Högberget granite and the Wigström tungsten skarn deposit in Bergslagen (Sweden) using trace elements and U-Pb LA-ICPMS on complex zircons

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Anders Plan; [2020]
    Keywords : Bergslagen; Wigström; Högberget; geochronology; geochemistry; U-Pb; REE; trace element; zircon; hydrothermal zircon; LA-ICPMS; SEM; skarn; tungsten; wolfram; scheelite; deposit; ore; critical raw material; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Combined U-Pb and REE trace element LA-ICPMS analyses were performed on zircons, from the scheelite-bearing Wigström skarn, associated micro-granitic dykes and the highly evolved parental Högberget (sensu stricto) granite. Combined systematic of zircon typology and microtextures, trace elements and isotopic chemistry suggest the presence of several diverse zircon types, spanning from early- to late- magmatic stage into a hydrothermal stage.
