  1. 1. Evaluation of the Effect of Quinoa-containing bread varieties on acute blood glucose and insulin responses

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Livsmedelsteknik och nutrition (master)

    Author : Cecilia Nilsson; [2023]
    Keywords : applied nutrition and food chemistry; quinoa; bread; postprandial blood glucose; insulin; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Three quinoa-containing breads made from three different varieties of quinoa were presented as test products to be compared with a control of regular white wheat bread. The study was a randomised controlled single-blind, crossover in which blood glucose, insulin and subjective appetite sensations “Hunger”, “Satiety” and “Desire to eat” were measured in regular intervals during a three hours period after food consumption. 2. 2. Exploring a unique pocket in Galectin-8N by the synthesis of D-galactoside-based benzimidazole inhibitors

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Centrum för analys och syntes

    Author : Sid Bartold; [2023]
    Keywords : organic chemistry; synthesis; gal; gal-8; gal-8N; galectin; galectin-8; galectin-8N; inhibitor; drug development; benzimidazole; galactoside; carbohydrate; carbohydrate chemistry; Suzuki-coupling; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Galectins are a family of glycan-binding proteins where galectin-8 is a part of the subgroup known as tandem-repeat type galectins. Galectin-8 is composed of two homologous CRDs, one N- and one C-terminal CRD. As it stands now, galectin-8N has been found to bind to a larger number of glycans than galectin-8C. READ MORE

  3. 3. Exploring Regioselective 5N-acylation of Neuraminic acid

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Kemiska institutionen

    Author : Simon Hans Lilje; [2022]
    Keywords : acylation; amide; antibacterial drugs; regioselective deprotection; sialic acid; organic chemistry; Chemistry;

    Abstract : In this project, a regioselective method to deprotect and acylate the amide on C5 of sialic acid is explored. Sialic acid is one of the most complex monosaccharides and is an important ligand in many higher organisms in intercellular cell communication. The most prominent example is related to the immune system. READ MORE

  4. 4. Influence of starch botanical source on aqueous two-phase system phase behavior and starch microspheres preparation

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Livsmedelsteknik och nutrition (master)

    Author : Denis Oskolkov; [2022]
    Keywords : starch microspheres; acid hydrolysis; DSC; microscopy; potato; barley; corn; pharmaceutical technology; Technology and Engineering; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Background: Starch is a well-studied material, produced by plants in granules to store energy. Starch finds a lot of applications in day-to-day life, in the food and pharmaceutical industry. READ MORE

  5. 5. The Effect of Using DMSO as a Cosolvent for Ligand Binding Studies

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Biofysikalisk kemi

    Author : Simon Birgersson; [2019]
    Keywords : Galectins; Nuclear Magnetic Resonance; NMR; Biophysical Chemistry; Relaxation; CPMG; ITC; Biofysikalisk Kemi; Kärnmagnetisk resonans; Technology and Engineering; Chemistry; Biology and Life Sciences;

    Abstract : DMSO sees common application as a solvent for studies of synthetic molecules in biological systems, in fields such as drug design. Despite this, the possibility and nature of solvent interactions with both synthetic ligand and their target macromolecules is widely unexamined. READ MORE
