  1. 11. Genetic diversity and hardiness in Scots pine from Scandinavia to Russia

    University essay from Umeå universitet/Institutionen för ekologi, miljö och geovetenskap

    Author : Jenny Olsson; [2019]
    Keywords : Pinus sylvestris; recolonization history; genetic diversity; cold hardiness; clinal variation;

    Abstract : The postglacial recolonization of northern Europe supposedly originated from Western Europe and the Russian Plain, however, recent molecular and macrofossil-based investigations suggest that the history may be more complex than previously thought. This study aims to investigate the genetic diversity and population structure of Scots pine from Scandinavia to Russia to re-evaluate its recolonization history, and to examine whether the pattern of spatial genetic diversity has any adaptive significance. 2. 12. Evolutionary history and local adaptation in Scottish populations of Populus tremula

    University essay from SLU/Dept. Of Plant Biology

    Author : Jonathan R. Wilson; [2019]
    Keywords : local adaptation; population structure; selective sweep; synteny;

    Abstract : From a subset of P. tremula samples taken from across Europe and China, principal component analysis of genetic variation indicated population structure in the Scottish population compared with the rest of Eurasia. READ MORE

  3. 13. Optimization of PCR protocols used for genotyping transgenic mice & Evaluation of a method for co-detecting mRNA and protein

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Jämförande fysiologi

    Author : Amanda Isaksson; [2017]
    Keywords : Ventral tegmental area; Substantia nigra; Parkinson’s disease; transgenic mice; Cre-Lox recombination;

    Abstract : The aim of the current study was divided into two separate goals, (i) optimization of a number of PCR-based protocols employed for genotyping transgenic mouse lines and (ii) evaluating a protocol for co-detection of mRNA and its correlated protein in the mouse midbrain. The optimization was performed on PCR protocols for genotyping the following transgenic mouse lines; Dat-Cre, Vglut2-Lox, Vglut2-Cre and Vmat2-Lox. READ MORE

  4. 14. Genetics of bird migration : Study on East Siberian willow warblers (Phylloscopus trochilus)

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för biologisk grundutbildning

    Author : Kristaps Sokolovskis; [2017]
    Keywords : birds; willow warblers; phylloscopus trochilus; leaf warblers; migration; genetics; stable isotopes; eastern siberia;

    Abstract : Seasonal long-distance bird migration between wintering and breeding grounds is oneof the most remarkable phenomena in the history of life on earth. Migration strategies androutes vary greatly. Some birds migrate in social groups whilst others migrate alone at night,some cross few hundreds of km whilst others cover thousands of km. READ MORE

  5. 15. Natural migration barriers for fish by hydropower plants : methods to assess historic passability. Case studies of migration barriers

    University essay from SLU/Dept. Of Aquatic Resources

    Author : Johansson Anders; [2016]
    Keywords : natural migration barriers; historic passablility; reference connectivity; connectivity; fish; brown trout; eel; hydropower;

    Abstract : Is it necessary to build fishways at all artificial migration barriers to restore and sustain bio-diversity? Hydropower plants have often been built at places where a difference in height has been used to gain more power, leading to the hypothesis that many hydropower dams have been built at natural migration barriers. How are Swedish running waters (not large rivers) assessed with respect to historical passability for fish at natural migration barriers and dams? How does one study a specific location with respect to the historical passability for different fish species? The methodologies that are evaluated in this thesis are relevant and specific information from a habitat mapping from Värmland County, where 2 903 km waterways already have been surveyed. READ MORE
