  1. 1. Monthly heatwave prediction in Sweden based on Machine Learning techniques with remote sensing data

    University essay from KTH/Hållbar utveckling, miljövetenskap och teknik

    Author : Zhuoran Li; [2023]
    Keywords : Heatwave Prediction; Sweden; Machine Learning; Remote Sensing Data; Värmebölja förutsägelse; Sverige; Maskininlärning; Fjärravkänningsdata;

    Abstract : Heatwave events as a kind of extreme climate event, have plagued the human race for the past few years. It severely influences people’s life quality, sometimes even leads to some serious diseases. In order to alleviate the possible damages heatwave events can do, some targeted actions are necessary and forecasting heatwaves is one of them. READ MORE

  2. 2. Petrography of impactites from the Dellen impact structure, Sweden

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Robert Mroczek; [2023]
    Keywords : Dellen; Impact; structure; magnetite; apatite; shock waves; shock-metamorphic; features; Impactite; petrography; scanning electron microscope; SEM; geology; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Identification and characterization of shock-metamorphic features in hypervelocity impact craters is important for our understanding of how shock waves interact with geologic materials and how impact craters form, which in turn is essential to our understanding of what role impact cratering played in the development of our solar system. Of particular interest are accessory minerals like apatite, which contains various volatiles that can affect the atmosphere of a body, or magnetite whose magnetic properties constitute a remote sensing indicator which allows us to study and understand the internal structures of distant bodies. 3. 3. Mapping Fire Salamander (Salamandra salamandra) Habitat Suitability in Baden-Württemberg with Multi-Temporal Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 Imagery

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Andreas Eriksson; [2022]
    Keywords : Geography; GIS; Habitat Suitability; Remote Sensing; Image Classification; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Remote sensing image classification is used in land cover, forest type and tree species classifications but rarely considered for habitat suitability modelling of animal and plant species. It is instead common that land cover products derived from remote sensing data are used in these modelling problems, even though satellite imagery can provide more detailed information. READ MORE

  4. 4. Estimation of dissolved organic carbon from inland waters using remote sensing data and machine learning

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Lasse Harkort; [2022]
    Keywords : dissolved organic carbon; machine learning; remote sensing; inland waters; water quality; open source data; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : This thesis presents the first attempt to estimate Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC) in inland waters over a large-scale area using satellite data and machine learning (ML) methods. Four ML approaches, namely Random Forest Regression (RFR), Support Vector Regression (SVR), Gaussian Process Regression (GPR), and a Multilayer Backpropagation Neural Network (MBPNN) were tested to retrieve DOC using a filtered version of the recently published open source AquaSat dataset with more than 16 thousand samples across the continental US matched with satellite data from Landsat 5, 7 and 8 missions. 5. 5. Remote Sensing Based Pre-Season Yellow Rust Early Warning in Oromia, Ethiopia

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Chinatsu Endo; [2021]
    Keywords : yellow rust; modeling; prediction; early warning; remote sensing; geography; geographical information systems; GIS; Agriculture and Food Sciences; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Yellow rust (Puccinia striiformis f. sp. Tritici) is a crop disease caused by a fungus that regularly infects wheat and causes yield loss in Ethiopia. The disease has a significant impact on the country’s crop production, food security, health, and socioeconomic well-being. READ MORE
