1. The Promise of a Green Revolution : Conceptions of climate change and sustainability in local movements objecting to mining establishment
University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för kulturantropologi och etnologiAbstract : This study explores how vernacular understandings of climate change and sustainability are formed in relation to local disputes concerning mineral exploration. In a search for a solution to climate change, the interest in rare earth elements (REEs), and other metals used in green technology has resulted in granting mining companies processing concessions in Sweden. 2. Biological characterization of a novel biomaterial : In vitro studies of a biodegradable Mg-Ca alloy
University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för medicinsk cellbiologiAbstract : Biodegradable implants continue to be of interest in orthopaedics for their many potential applications. The magnesium (Mg) alloy WE43 is a biodegradable material with the CE mark approval for clinical application and today mostly used as screws for dental prosthesis. READ MORE

3. Improving mussel reef protection from a sustainability perspective: Mapping of a blue mussel reef in Denmark
University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaperAbstract : Coastal areas currently face a lot of anthropogenic pressures (Erlandsson et al, 2011; Wilcox et al, 2020) which might further increase through climate change (Maltby et al, 2022). This can lead to the disappearance of crucial, habitat engineering species like blue mussels (Tummon Flynn et al, 2020). READ MORE

4. Complex REE zonations in metamorphic garnet reflect accessory mineral reactions
University essay from Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaperAbstract : A garnet from the Sesia Zone, NW Italy, was selected for Major and Rare Earth Element (REE) mapping, using LA-ICP-MS – a procedure previously not conducted at the Department of Earth Science at University of Gothenburg. The original inclusion assemblage of the garnet is preserved, and the mapping revealed two distinct changes in both garnet chemistry and inclusion assemblage, both which can be linked to the metamorphic development of the region. 5. Resolving temporal links between the Högberget granite and the Wigström tungsten skarn deposit in Bergslagen (Sweden) using trace elements and U-Pb LA-ICPMS on complex zircons
University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionenAbstract : Combined U-Pb and REE trace element LA-ICPMS analyses were performed on zircons, from the scheelite-bearing Wigström skarn, associated micro-granitic dykes and the highly evolved parental Högberget (sensu stricto) granite. Combined systematic of zircon typology and microtextures, trace elements and isotopic chemistry suggest the presence of several diverse zircon types, spanning from early- to late- magmatic stage into a hydrothermal stage.
