  1. 16. A study of the gamma-ray emission from the blazar S50716+71 using the Fermi-LAT telescope

    University essay from Linnéuniversitetet/Institutionen för fysik och elektroteknik (IFE)

    Author : Fredrik Vislander; [2022]
    Keywords : AGN; active galactic nuclei; Fermi-LAT; astrophysics; gamma-rays; synchrotron self-Compton; SSC; S50716 71.;

    Abstract : This thesis sums up a bachelor project in which gamma-ray emission from an extra-galactic source (S50716+71) is studied using data collected by the Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT). The emission consists of 12,5 years of data (April 2008 to February 2020) in the energy range 100 MeV - 300 GeV. READ MORE

  2. 17. Extension of the Mission Timeline Simulator with Modern Optimization Capabilities

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Institutionen för system- och rymdteknik

    Author : Flavia Pérez Cámara; [2022]
    Keywords : Optimization; timeline; simulator; matlab; control;

    Abstract : The Advanced Telescope for High-Energy Astrophysics (ATHENA) has been selected as the second large (L-class) mission designed to address the Cosmic Vision science theme “The Hot and Energetic Universe”. The European Space Agency has produced a Mission Observation Plan which contains objectives and constraints of the mission. READ MORE

  3. 18. Simulating and Testing the Polarimetric Response of the X-ray Polarimetry Telescope XL-Calibur

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Filip af Malmborg; [2022]
    Keywords : Astroparticle Physics; Astrophysics; Detector Physics; Simulation; Theoretical Physics; Engineering Physics; Astropartikelfysik; Astropartikelfysik; Detektorfysik; Simulering; Teoretisk Fysik; Teknisk Fysik;

    Abstract : X-ray polarimetry, the study of the polarisation of X-ray light, is a powerful and rapidly developing tool for astrophysics, which promises to help answer outstanding questions about the physics of extreme objects such as pulsars, X-ray binaries and active galactic nuclei. The balloon-borne telescope XL-Calibur will be the first instrument to study the polarisation of hard X-rays (with energies between 10 and 100 keV) in detail, correlating with the soft X-ray observations of IXPE to provide further tests of polarisation-dependent x-ray emission models in extreme objects. 4. 19. Assessment of Modern Statistical Modelling Methods for the Association of High-Energy Neutrinos to Astrophysical Sources

    University essay from KTH/Matematisk statistik

    Author : Valentin Minoz; [2021]
    Keywords : Statistics; Astrophysics; Neutrino sources; Mixture models; Monte Carlo methods; Maximum likelihood estimation; Statistik; Astrofysik; Neutrinokällor; Blandningsmodeller; Monte Carlo-metoder; Maximum likelihood-metoden;

    Abstract : The search for the sources of astrophysical neutrinos is a central open question in particle astrophysics. Thanks to substantial experimental efforts, we now have large-scale neutrino detectors in the oceans and polar ice. READ MORE

  5. 20. Design of a variable focal length optics for a SWIR Earth observation camera

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Rymdteknik

    Author : Sergio David Díaz Martínez; [2021]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of a preliminary design study of a variable focal length optics for a SWIREarth observation camera which is planned to be placed inside a 6U Cubesat. After thesuccess of DRAGO instrument consisting on a SWIR camera onboard a Cubesat, which hasbeen recently launched (January 2021), the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands(IAC) began this project with the intention of adding zoom optics to SWIR space imagingsystems.
