Abstract: This analysis explores the seemingly paradoxical and fairly common phenomenon occurring in films where underachieving slacker characters are portrayed as good role-models giving advice to ambitious protagonists aspiring success. By juxtaposing 15 diverse films in which a slacker helps the protagonist, observations of similarities and explications concludes this investigation to four categories concerning suggestions to why slackerism is commonly attributed to film mentors.
