Users’ Perceptions of the Patient-Accessible Electronic Health Record “Journalen” : An interpretive research from users’ perceptions

University essay from Linnéuniversitetet/Institutionen för informatik (IK)

Abstract: The aim of this master’s thesis is to investigate patients’ and physicians’ perceptions and recommendations of Patient-Accessible Electronic Health Records (PAEHR) in order to achieve Patient-Centred Care (PCC). The study employs Soft System Methodology (SSM) as a holistic approach to understanding the complex and dynamic nature of Electronic Health Records (EHRs) in the healthcare sector. The research involves qualitative methods, including focused group interviews and individual interviews with two stakeholder groups, (1) patients and (2) physicians, to gather data and their perceptions and recommendations for the PAEHR Journalen. The findings of the study will be used to develop a conceptual model that illustrates the relationships between patients, physicians, and the PAEHR Journalen, and will provide recommendations for the design and implementation of a PAEHR Journalen that comply with PCC. Overall, this thesis aims to contribute to the development of a more patient-centred PAEHR Journalen.
