  1. 6. A Near-Infrared Diffraction Radiation Spectrometer for MHz Repetition Rate Electron Bunch Diagnostics at the European XFEL

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Tillämpad kärnfysik

    Author : Simon Fahlström; [2019]
    Keywords : European XFEL; XFEL; Free-Electron Laser; FEL; bunch diagnostics; Coherent Diffraction Radiation; Spectrometer;

    Abstract : We have built a spectrometer to investigate the Near-Infrared (NIR) range of this radiation, which is used for bunch diagnostics at the European X-ray Free-Electron Laser. This could give information on the development of microbunching, periodic features in the longitudinal charge profile of the bunches which have a negative impact on the operation of the facility. 2. 7. Laser Beam Pathway Design and Evaluation for Dielectric Laser Acceleration

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Tillämpad materialvetenskap

    Author : Karwan Rasouli; [2019]
    Keywords : Dielectric Laser Acceleration; DLA; Particle Acceleration; Acceleration; Femtosecond Laser; Dielectric grating; Laser Beam Focus; Beam Focusing; Scanning Electron Microscope; SEM; Microscope Imaging;

    Abstract : After nearly 100 years of particle acceleration, particle accelerator experiments continue providing results within the field of high energy physics. Particle acceleration is used worldwide in practical applications such as radiation therapy and materials science research. Unfortunately, these accelerators are large and expensive. READ MORE

  3. 8. Transient Plasma Photonic Crystals - A Route Towards Slow Ultra-intense Light?

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Atomfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Robin Weissenbilder; [2018]
    Keywords : slow; light; plasma; photonic; crystal; transient; ultra-intense; short; pulse; laser; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : Periodic electron and ion density modulations in near critical density plasmas induced by counterpropagating femtosecond pulses of intensities on the order of 10¹⁵ to 10¹⁶ Wcm⁻² are described in a linear and stationary regime and investigated using particle-in-cell simulations in one and two dimensions. The periodic gratings produce transient plasma photonic crystals lasting up to several picoseconds with ultra-wide angle-selective band gaps on the order of Δω/ω₀ ≈ 10-20%. READ MORE

  4. 9. Positive-Ion/Negative-Ion Coincidence (PINICO) Experiments on Water

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/MAX IV-laboratoriet

    Author : Bruno Moog; [2017]
    Keywords : PINICO; TOF; time-of-flight; time of flight; spectroscopy; coincidence spectroscopy; water; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : A new setup for versatile ion time-of-flight coincidence spectroscopy was built using a pre-existing negative ion time-of-flight spectrometer aligned with a short extension that may be used to detect photons, Auger electrons or positive ions. The extension was designed to be short to improve detection of photons, as they do not have a preferred direction for their emission, and high-momentum particles, which would miss the detector if it were placed farther from the interaction region. 5. 10. Monte Carlo simulations and measurements of the radiation environment at a laser-plasma accelerator

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Atomfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Jack Strand Berg; [2016]
    Keywords : Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : In current experiments at the high-power laser facility at the Lund Laser Centre, electrons accelerated to hundreds of MeV over short distances by means of laser wakefield acceleration in produced plasmas. To determine the amount of secondary radiation generated when accelerated electrons interact with surrounding materials is of interest to ensure a safe working environment. READ MORE
