  1. 1. Fitting the pion and kaon mass and decay constant to lattice data

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik

    Author : Hector Tiblom; [2021]
    Keywords : chiral perturbation theory; lattice QCD; pion mass; kaon mass; decay constant; low-energy QCD; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : We use lattice QCD data to perform a fit of the pion and kaon mass and decay constant to next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in three-flavor Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT). To improve our fits, we make use of finite volume corrections at both one- and two-loop order. This turns out to provide a small but noticeable improvement of our fits. READ MORE

  2. 2. Synchrotrons as a Source for Soft X-Ray Lithography

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Synkrotronljusfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Thomas Joseph Grandsaert Jr; [2021]
    Keywords : Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : To move to lower modes in extreme ultra-violet lithography (EUVL) technology (and keep up with Moore’s law), new sources of soft X-ray radiation must be developed. It is clear from previous studies that Free Electron Lasers (FELs) can easily meet the in-band power requirements at these lower wavelength modes, however detailed studies for insertion devices (undulators) as a soft X-ray lithography (SXL) source are due for a re-evaluation. 3. 3. Quantum thermodynamics explorations with a Hubbard-Holstein dimer

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Matematisk fysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Emil Adam Jonatan Östberg; [2021]
    Keywords : QTD Quantum Thermodynamics Hubbard-Holstein Hubbard Holstein dimer Lanczos Suzuki-Trotter ST Exact diagonalization ED Hysteresis Path dependence Battery Mott-insulator; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The goal of this project is to characterize the quantum thermodynamics of a Hubbard-Holstein dimer. We explore how the standard formalism of quantum thermodynamics behaves in the context many-body physics. READ MORE

  4. 4. Search for Higgs-like bosons through optimization of top-quark modelling

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Partikelfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Rafael Antonio Lopez; [2021]
    Keywords : ttbar; top quark modelling; BSM; 2HDM S; Higgs-like bosons; ATLAS; HWW; XSh; top estimation; top remodelling; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : Accurate estimations of background processes associated with top-quarks are vital to studies concerned with finding new physics at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC)at CERN. Search for Higgs-like bosons in the ATLAS experiment at LHC was performed by optimising the use of b-jet tagging algorithms and improving on tt backgroundmodelling. READ MORE

  5. 5. Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) and Bayesian Inference for Gravitational Waves

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Astronomi

    Author : Christine Andersson; [2021]
    Keywords : Gravitational Waves; LISA; LISA mission; Bayesian Inference; Markov Chain Monte Carlo; MCMC; Bayes’ Theorem; stochastic sampling; Metropolis Hastings; histograms; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) is a space borne gravitational wave detec- tor set to launch in 2034, with the objective of detecting and studying the Gravitational Waves (GWs) of our universe. So far, ground-based detectors such as the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) have been successful in detecting GWs, but the limitations of ground based detectors is what makes LISA so special.
