  1. 1. Cosmological Implications of the Quantum SU(2) Yang-Mills Fields

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik; Lunds universitet/Institutionen för astronomi och teoretisk fysik

    Author : Emil Boman; [2019]
    Keywords : Cosmic Inflation; Yang-Mills; SU 2 gauge fields; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : We study the key properties of the quantum SU(2) Yang-Mills ground state and its possible role in the early Universe, in particular, as a driver of Cosmic Inflation. Using the effective action approach and separating the Yang-Mills field potential into homogeneous (condensate) and inhomogeneous (fluctuations) components, we reproduce the conformal-time solutions for the two different types of the Yang-Mills condensate in the minimum of the effective Lagrangian for generic initial conditions. 2. 2. A Fabry–Pérot Cavity for Rare-Earth-Ion-Doped Nanocrystals

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Atomfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Andre Nüsslein; [2019]
    Keywords : Quantum Computer; Rear Earth Ions; Cavity; Laser; Cavity Quantum Electrodynamics; QED; Solidworks; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : This thesis work contributes to the effort of detecting single rare earth ions doped into crystals, an operation crucial for the development of rare earth quantum computer hardware. Doping crystals with rare earth elements, their trivalent ions substitute some of the crystal’s original bonds. READ MORE

  3. 3. How did Jupiter form?

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Astronomi

    Author : Calle Ahlgren; [2019]
    Keywords : Planet formation; Planet migration; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : Two relatively new concepts in planetary science are planetary migration; wherein the planets migrate through the protoplanetary disk as they form, and pebble accretion; wherein the planetesimals which become terrestrial planets and giant planet cores grow through the accretion of small pebbles. Planetary migration has become a generally accepted concept but there is still much to be learned even about how it affected the formation of our own solar system. READ MORE

  4. 4. Selective Electron Exctraction in Nanowire-based Solar Cells

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Matematisk fysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Klára Nováková; [2019]
    Keywords : Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The transmission function for a three and four rectangular barrier system of InP andInAs is computed using the transfer-matrix method and the transmission formalism. Thewidths of the wells and the barriers are varied while the barrier height is kept constant. READ MORE

  5. 5. Single Ion Detection of Cerium in Y2SiO5 Microcrystals

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Atomfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Vassily Kornienko; [2019]
    Keywords : cerium; YSO; rare-earths; quantum computing; microcrystals; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : Quantum computing with single instances of rare earth-ions doped into inorganic crystals shows great promise as a scalable design in the field of quantum information. A detectable and controllable single readout ion is necessary for the scheme proposed in Lund to work. READ MORE
