    Abstract : Using traditional event study methods, the abnormal returns of publicly traded small pharmaceutical and biotechnology stocks in conjunction with a drug receiving the special FDA accelerated approval designation is analyzed. 37 events between 2001 and 2021 are included and the announcement is found to lead to significant abnormal returns of approximately +11% on the event day and +13% over the analyzed 9-day event window.
