  1. 1. Modified cellulose synthesized by different deep eutectic solvents as an additive in paper making process

    University essay from Karlstads universitet

    Author : Shiniar Said Saleh; [2023]
    Keywords : green chemistry; dry strength additives; deep eutectic solvents; sodium periodate oxidation; charge density; dewatering; mechanical strength.;

    Abstract : The environmental concerns that come with the currently used traditional papermaking process where petroleum-based additives are used, has tempted researchers to study “green” additives by introducing environmentally friendly modifications of cellulose as an additive in the papermaking process. This thesis will spin further on that by producing additives with different charge densities and focus on to incorporate an etherification reaction into potentially greens systems based on non-toxic and readily biodegradable deep eutectic solvent (DES). 2. 2. Synthesis and Investigation of Nitrile-Containing Polymers Inspired by Lignin

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Centrum för analys och syntes

    Author : Tobias Lindborg; [2022]
    Keywords : Lignin; Polymer; Renewable; Bioresource; Glass transition temperature; Nitrile; Polymer technology; Chemistry; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : The lignin-inspired derivatives coniferyl aldehyde and sinapyl aldehyde were used to prepare nitrile-containing methacrylate monomers with the aim to synthesize bio-based polymers exhibiting high glass transition temperatures (Tgs). The aldehydes were initially transformed to the corresponding nitriles and then underwent methacrylation before being polymerised by free-radical polymerisation. READ MORE

  3. 3. Oligosaccharide Analysis - Assessment of the DNS Method and Specification of Glucans Processed with CGTase

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Bioteknik; Lunds universitet/Bioteknik (master)

    Author : Matilda Johansson; [2022]
    Keywords : CGTase; DNS; Chromatography; HPAEC; HPAE; Carbohydrate; Carbohydrates; Glucans; Cyclodextrin glycosyltransferase; Biotechnology; Bioteknik; Flory; Enza; Enzyme; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : In this study, the reagent 3,5-dinitrosalicylic acid (DNS) and high-performance anion exchange chromatography (HPAEC) were used for carbohydrate characterisation. It was revealed that the DNS reaction is not exclusive to reducing ends as commonly thought, but rather that the reagent reacts with other parts of the carbohydrate molecules as well. READ MORE

  4. 4. Oxidation of cellulose to favour its dissolution in alkaline aqueous solution before regeneration into textile yarn

    University essay from KTH/Kemiteknik

    Author : Martin Orpiszak; [2021]
    Keywords : Cellulose; periodate oxidation; dissolution; regeneration; textile yarn; cellulosa; natriumperjodat oxidation; upplösning; regenerering; textilgarn;

    Abstract : Detta examensarbete är en del av CelluFil-projektet och syftar till att optimera förhållandena för upplösning av cellulosa i vattenlösning av natriumhydroxid följd av regenering i form av ett garn. Tidigare arbeten har visa tatt cellulosa kan lösas i vattenlösning vid -10°C, men sådana förhållanden är inte tillämpliga i industriell skala. READ MORE

  5. 5. Biosensor based on immobilized amine transaminase for detection of amphetamine

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för kemi, bioteknologi och hälsa (CBH)

    Author : Clara Öh; [2020]
    Keywords : amine transaminases ATA ; enzyme immobilization; biosensor; covalent immobilization; ionic immobilization; amphetamine; histidine-tagged enzyme; Poly methyl methacrylate PMMA ;

    Abstract : Amine transaminases (ATA) catalyse the transfer of an amino group from one molecule and replaces a ketone or aldehyde with the amino group, the amino group on the amino-donor is replaced with a ketone or aldehyde. This enzyme, ATA from Chromobacterium violaceum, has previously been used to catalyse the reaction involving amphetamine, therefore, it might be possible to use this enzyme to convert amphetamine and the product absorbs in the UV spectrum and can therefore be measured spectrophotometrically.
