Web Interface for Systems Engineering DesignTools – A web application for facilitating the collaboration between business- and engineering teams

University essay from Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för data- och informationsteknik

Abstract: The interest in improving and optimising project planning and execution is currently large. The Value-Driven Design methodology of Systems Engineering aims to help with this through a focus on measuring value from early stages of projects. This project aims to create a tool that facilitates collaboration and understanding between engineering and business teams, built with principles of Value-Driven Design in mind. An international engineering standard, as well as a graphical notation with specifications ratified by that standard is used in the creation of this tool. Systems Engineering Design Laboratory, a research group at Chalmers’ Department of Industrial and Materials Science, had an already existing application which was unfinished. Throughout this project an entirely new front end was developed. The already existing back end was improved and extended. The minimum requirements for the scope of the projects were changed halfway through since the original scope was too big to be completed in the given time frame. The revised scope was fully achieved. In the future continued work can be done following the original scope, as it was revised due to a lack of time and no other reason.
