Verbs in the domain of transactions: a lexical and semantic
study of borrowing and lending

University essay from Luleå/Språk och kultur

Keywords: linguistics; English; metaphors;

Abstract: The aim of this essay was to find out if there are any differences between
the two verbs borrow and lend concerning meaning and usage. My research is
based on the A file of the British National Corpus and I used a computer
search program called MP2.2 to collect my data. The result revealed that
borrow is used more frequently than lend but that lend is used more often in
metaphorical expressions.
