  1. 36. Demonstrating quantum entanglement and Hong-Ou-Mandel effect, using type-II spontaneous parametric down conversion with C programming for data collection

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Erik Svanberg; Johan Johannisson Lundquist; [2022]
    Keywords : Quantum entanglement; polarization; HOM; Hong-Ou-Mandel; indistinguishability; type-II SPDC; spontaneous parametric down conversion; non-linear crystal; beam splitter; indistinguishable photons; data collection in C;

    Abstract : Spontaneous parametric down conversion (SPDC) is used to generate quantum entangled photons through a non-linear crystal. The entanglement of photons is demonstrated by observing the effects of indistinguishability on photons, first through time and energy, then by polarization. The Hong-Ou-Mandel (HOM) effect was also demonstrated. READ MORE

  2. 37. Information Flow and Local Observables in Many Body Localized Systems

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Daniel Niemi; [2022]
    Keywords : Theoretical physics; many body localization; localization; aubry-andré; aubry-andrei; condensed matter; quantum matter; Teroretisk fysik; mångpartikellokalisering; lokalisering; aubry-andré; aubry-andrei; kondenserad materia; kvantmateria;

    Abstract : Disordered quantum many-body systems exhibiting the many-body localization (MBL) phenomenon evade the fate of thermalization due to the existence of an extensively large set of quasi-local integrals of motion (l-bits). Due to the size of the Hilbert space of many-body systems, it is hard to compute the time evolution of many-body systems generally, which hinders our understanding of the MBL phenomenon. READ MORE

  3. 38. Late use of chipped stone tools: A case study of Viking age and Medieval material from middle Sweden

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Arkeologi

    Author : Mikael Lindahl; [2022]
    Keywords : Viking age; Middle age; Lithics analysis; Use-wear analysis; Affordance; Entanglement; Värmland; Mälardalen; Skramle; Birka; Scrapers; Fur-production; trade; History and Archaeology;

    Abstract : Stone tools define earlier prehistory but the extent of their usage in later periods remains uncertain, as the archaeological community tends to focus on trademark materials from respective time periods. Accordingly, usage of chipped stone such as quartz and flint in later periods, tends to be ignored or regarded as residual from earlier Stone age activities, resulting in that valuable knowledge is lost. 4. 39. Russia's Near Abroad

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Statsvetenskapliga institutionen

    Author : Anton Håkansson; [2022]
    Keywords : Spatiality; Security Cultures; Critical Geopolitics; NATO; Russia; Ukraine; Law and Political Science;

    Abstract : This essay combines theoretical insight from critical geo-politics and security studies to create a framework by which Putin’s Russia, his political prescriptions and actions in the international space can better be understood. It describes how the sociospatial entanglement of the post-soviet region that is today known as Russia's ‘near abroad’ intersects with questions about history, identity, ethnicity on the one hand, and security and geo-political anxiety on the other. 5. 40. Nonlinear mode coupling and parametric amplification with superconducting kinetic inductance

    University essay from KTH/Tillämpad fysik

    Author : Daniele Lopriore; [2022]
    Keywords : Quantum technology; microwave engineering; nanofabrication; parametric amplifiers; multimode entanglement; kinetic inductance; Kvantteknologi; mikrovågsteknik; nanotillverkning; parametriska förstärkare; multimodentrassling; kinetisk induktans;

    Abstract : We investigate the resonant characteristics of superconducting meandering nanowires to design a nonlinear kinetic inductance traveling-wave parametric amplifier. The devices are patterned out of 15 nm thick NbTiN films. They consist of a coplanar waveguide, that shrinks into 100 nm wide meandering nanowires. READ MORE
