  1. 1. Development of a multi-collector inductively coupled plasma massspectrometry method for measurement of stable sulphur isotope ratios in aerosol sulphate

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Analytisk kemi

    Author : Katerina Rodiouchkina; [2018]
    Keywords : Sulphate aerosol; isotope ratio; sulphur isotope; δ34S and δ33S measurements; MC-ICP-MS; method development; inter-laboratory comparison;

    Abstract : Sulphur stable isotope ratios are useful tracers in geological and environmental studies. They can for example be used to trace the origin of atmospheric sulphate aerosols, because anthropogenic sulphate and natural sulphate have distinguishable δ34S-values (δ34S value of approximately +0 to +8 ‰ for anthropogenic and approximately +12 to +19 ‰ for natural). 2. 2. Behaviour of Boron Isotopes During Magmatic Degassing and Application to B-Rich Volcanic Glassfrom Lesbos, Greece

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Konstantinos Thomaidis; [2017]
    Keywords : boron isotopes; volcanic glass; SIMS; magmatic degassing; Lesbos Island; borisotoper; vulkaniskt glas; SIMS; magmatisk avgasning; Lesbos;

    Abstract : Boron is a fluid mobile trace element and is routinely employed as a tracer of slab-derived fluids in subduction zones since the heavy isotope (11B) preferentially partitions into the fluid phase during slab dehydration. However, it has been shown experimentally that boron isotopes (expressed as δ11B) can fractionate by up to several permil (‰) during subsequent magmatic evolution and degassing at high temperature, calling into doubt the fidelity of boron isotopes in volcanic glass as accurate tracers of slab degassing. 3. 3. Nitrogen transformations at the Kiruna mine : The use of stable nitrogen isotopes to trace nitrogen-transforming processes

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Luft-, vatten- och landskapslära

    Author : Lino Nilsson; [2013]
    Keywords : Nitrogen; Nitrogen processes; Isotopes; Isotope tracers; Stable isotopes; Mines; Isotope analysis; Dual isotope analysis; Kväve; Kväveprocesser; Isotoper; Spårningsisotoper; Spårningsmetod; Gruvor; Isotopanalys;

    Abstract : Release of different nitrogen compounds can cause eutrophication in lakes and rivers whichcan lead to oxygen-free environments in bottom water and in the sediment and can in turnlead to fish-deaths. Ammonium can be toxic to biota and nitrate can in high concentrationeven be toxic to humans. READ MORE
