7. Investigation of the electron density close to the rings of Saturn and Prediction of the F-ring plasma characteristics
University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för fysik och astronomi; Uppsala universitet/Institutet för rymdfysik, UppsalaavdelningenAbstract : Saturn has the second strongest magnetic field among the planets of the solar system, creating the second biggest magnetosphere, after Jupiter. The magnetosphere is similar to Earth's, as both of them are created by a dipole magnetic field, produced by a planetary dynamo. Despite the similarities, they have some major differences. READ MORE

8. Low–voltage External Discharge Plasma Thruster and Hollow Cathodes Plasma Plume Diagnostics Utilising Electrostatic Probes and Retarding Potential Analyser
University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/RymdteknikAbstract : The present thesis is the result of a research period at the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science of the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency, ISAS/JAXA within Funaki Laboratory of the Department of Space Flight Systems that followed the path of plume plasma diagnostics for space electric propulsion drives. During the experimental studies two high-current hollow cathodes and an innovative prototype of a low-voltage fully external discharge plasma thruster (XPT) had their plasma plumes diagnosed using electrostatic probes and retarding potential analyser (RPA). 9. Following the central region of the Saturnian nightside plasma sheet
University essay from Uppsala universitet/Rymd- och plasmafysikAbstract : We use magnetic field data from Cassini’s on board magnetometer (MAG), plasma measurements by Cassini Plasma Spectrometer (CAPS) and electron density measurements from the RPWS Langmuir probe (LP) on board Cassini, for an extended set of orbits from 2004 to 2010 and for distances up to 30 Rs from the planet. The central region of the nightside plasma sheet is identified using the radial component of the magnetic field Br, in contrary to solely geometrical criteria used in previous studies, such as the vertical distance z from the equatorial plane. 10. Distribution of Electron Temperatures in Titan's Lower Ionosphere
University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för fysik och astronomi; Uppsala universitet/Institutet för rymdfysik, UppsalaavdelningenAbstract : The report contained herein is a statistical analysis of electron temperatures withinTitan’s lower ionosphere. Electron temperatures in this altitudinal range are of greatimport for researchers. The main contributing factors are investigated to see whatphysical processes are the sources of variability in electron temperatures. READ MORE
