  1. 1. Wall-Resolved and Wall-Modelled LES for a NACA4412 Wing Profile in OpenFOAM

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för teknikvetenskap (SCI)

    Author : Nikolaos Charisoudis; [2024]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The purpose of this study is to perform computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulationfor an incompressible flow around an airfoil and investigate the aerodynamicproperties for different Reynolds numbers (400, 000 and 1, 000, 000) based on the chordlength, at the moderate angle of attack (AoA) of 5o . For this purpose a detailedevaluation of wall-resolved and wall-modelled large-eddy simulations (LES) wereconducted for the NACA4412 wing profile. READ MORE

  2. 2. Solving the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in 3-D to model gas flow in a room

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Avdelningen för beräkningsvetenskap

    Author : Fredrik Malmström; [2024]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The thesis proposes to model the flow of gases in a room by solving the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in three dimensions. The transportationof scalars such as temperature and concentration of CO2 is modeled by solving the advection-diffusion equation, and the effects of temperature on thevelocity is accounted for by employing the Boussinesq approximation. 3. 3. Computational Fluid Dynamics and Modeling of a Free Surface Flow

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för teknikvetenskap (SCI)

    Author : Mathieu Marmier; [2023]
    Keywords : CFD; Free Surface Flow; VOF; STAR-CCM ; Multiphase Simulation; Nuclear Engineering; Fluid Mechanics;

    Abstract : This project deals with the CFD modelling of a free surface flow. The aim is to develop and validate a fast and accurate numerical model for stratified two-phase flows. Volume of Fluid (VOF) multiphase model is employed. The purpose is to use the developed numerical model for the design of an element within a compact nuclear reactor. READ MORE

  4. 4. Cable Shape Optimization - Drag Reduction of Cables Used in Marine Applications

    University essay from KTH/Teknisk mekanik

    Author : Simon Garpenquist; [2023]
    Keywords : Wind Tunnel Experiment; Computational Fluid Dynamics; Aerodynamic Forces; Drag Reduction; Shape Optimization; Flow around Cylinders; Yacht Racing;

    Abstract : It is important to understand the aerodynamic properties of tensioned cables (e.g. used in suspension bridges and yacht riggings), both for drag reduction and vibrational suppression purposes. READ MORE

  5. 5. On intermittency in the turbulent asymptotic suction boundary layer

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för teknikvetenskap (SCI)

    Author : Edoardo Foschi; [2023]
    Keywords : Turbulence; turbulent boundary layer; intermittency; numerical simulation; DNS; tripping; suction;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a series of direct numerical simulations (DNS) performed in order to understand the discrepancy in the literature regarding turbulent asymptotic suction boundary layers (TASBLs) at low Reynolds numbers. The hypothesis to be tested is that the main reason for higher turbulence intensities observed in experiments compared to DNS is that the latter exhibits intermittent patches of laminar flow, developing both temporally and spatially.
