  1. 11. Introducing a central receiver system for industrial high-temperature process heat applications : A techno-economic case study of a large-scale CST plant system in a South African manganese sinter plant

    University essay from KTH/Kraft- och värmeteknologi

    Author : Maria Hallberg; Elin Hallme; [2019]
    Keywords : Solar energy; concentrating solar thermal; CST; central receiver system; CR; HelioPod; high-temperature process heat; manganese; business case; Solenergi; koncentrerad termisk solvärme; CST; soltorn; HelioPod; högtempererad processvärme; mangan; affärsmodell;

    Abstract : The objective of this thesis was to investigate the potential for introducing a concentrating solar thermal (CST) central receiver plant system based on flexible heliostats - HelioPods - to provide high-temperature process heat in industrial applications. A CST plant system was designed in MATLAB, optically simulated for three design days in the ray-tracing software Tonatiuh and further analyzed in MATLAB by interpolating the results for each hour of the year. 2. 12. Field measurements evaluation and modeling of CO2 heat pump for residential building (Gamen 12)

    University essay from KTH/Energiteknik

    Author : Hassan El Sabea; [2019]
    Keywords : Koldioxidtrans-kritisk värmepump; Fältmätningar; Gamen 12 Skrapan ; Vasakronan; Bostadshus; Kostnadsbesparingar.;

    Abstract : Carbon dioxide, as a natural refrigerant, is safe and environment-friendly. It is also an economic refrigerant which can be utilized in residential heat pumps. Analysis has been done to evaluate the performance of the CO2 heat pump in Gamen 12 (Skrapan) in the Sodermalm area, owned by Vasakronan; which is a real estate company. READ MORE

  3. 13. Integrated Combined Heat and Power Plant with Borehole Thermal Energy Storage

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för industriell teknik och management (ITM)

    Author : Amol Yevalkar; [2019]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Countries like Sweden, that experience temperatures below 0 𝑜C, have a high heating demand during winters. The heating demand in Sweden is satisfied through district heating, electric heating, heat pumps and biofuel boilers. The fossil fuels account for around 5 % of the heating market. READ MORE

    Abstract : District heating and geothermal heating are in present times two established heating systems that are often compared against each other. The purpose of this work is to describe which factors influence the choice of heating system during the planning stage and what the costs are for each system. READ MORE

  5. 15. Evaluation of CO2 Ice rink heat recovery system performance

    University essay from KTH/Energiteknik

    Author : Sotirios Thanasoulas; [2018]
    Keywords : Ice rinks; CO2 as refrigerant; Heat recovery; Efficient systems; Operation control; Warm climate; Isrinkar; Koldioxid som kylmedel; Värmeåtervinning; Effektiva system; Driftstyrning; Varmt klimat;

    Abstract : Ice rinks are the largest energy consumers in terms of public buildings due to their simultaneous need of cooling, heating, ventilation, and lighting for different parts of the building which means that these facilities also have a lot of potential for energy saving. Due to the size of the cooling unit in an ice rink the refrigerant charge can become quite high, which potentially has a big impact on the environment. READ MORE
