  1. 21. Factors influencing the generation of carbon monoxide in fires partially suppressed through water mist application

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Brandteknik

    Author : Haydn Lewis; [2020]
    Keywords : Fire safety engineering; water mist; fire suppression; carbon monoxide; water; combustion; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Fires in the built environment typically consist of diffusion flames with inefficient mixing of fuel and oxygen, resulting in a degree of incomplete combustion and the generation of carbon monoxide. Fire suppression systems, used to control the growth and spread of fire, influence the combustion reaction process. READ MORE

  2. 22. Modelling the Production of Biofuels via Olefins Oligomerisation

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för kemi, bioteknologi och hälsa (CBH)

    Author : Nima Mirzaei; [2020]
    Keywords : Biofuels; Mathematical Modelling; Process Simulation; Oligomerisation; Fischer-Tropsch; Biobränslen; Matematisk Modellering; Process Simulering; Oligomerisering; Fischer-Tropsch;

    Abstract : The technical feasibility of gasoline and diesel range hydrocarbons production through oligomerisation of olefins, starting from biomass with the intermediary steps of gasfication, water-gas shift reaction and syngas-to-olefins synthesis was investigated, through mathematical modelling and simulation on Matlab. The model for the gasifier was based on minimisation of Gibbs free energy and its results showed that higher carbon efficiencies could be achieved at lower pressures and steam inlet, and more inlet energy, by pre-heating the gasifying agents. 3. 23. Simulation of Colorless Distributed Combustion

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för energivetenskaper

    Author : Hampus Olsson; [2019]
    Keywords : Computational Fluid Dynamics; Combustion; Gas Turbine; Emission reduction; Flameless Combustion; Colorless Distributed Combustion; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Colorless distributed combustion (CDC) is a promising novel technology to reduce emissions of carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides in gas turbine combustors. CDC features a different flame regime than conventional gas turbine combustors, associated with a distributed reaction zone and low and uniform temperatures due to dilution of combustion air with exhaust gases. 4. 24. Synthesis and Characterization of some Photo-CORM and Photosensitizers

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Kemiska institutionen

    Author : Joachim Björklund; [2019]
    Keywords : Inorganic Chemistry; Bioinorganic Chemistry; CORM; Photo-CORM; Photosensitizers; Synthesis; Characterization; Oorganisk kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : It is well known that Carbon monoxide is a toxic and hazardous gas, but during recent years it has been proven that using a controlled concentration, carbon monoxide can in fact be used as a therapeutic agent, and can contribute to decrease malaria, treat cardiovascular and lung diseases and potentially even treat cancer, among other things. The main problem in using carbon monoxide directly is the fact that it is not trivial to control the volume of gas inhaled, compromising its use as a therapeutic agent. READ MORE

  5. 25. Indoor Air Pollution, Passive Ventilation Strategies and Thermal Comfort in Nepal

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för arkitektur och byggd miljö

    Author : Marianne Löwgren; [2019]
    Keywords : Energy poverty; Solid biomass fuels; Improved cooking stoves; Indoor air pollution; Carbon monoxide; Vernacular architecture; Passive ventilation; Air exchange rate; Indoor air quality; Thermal comfort; Operative temperature; Sustainable societal development; Social Sciences; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Indoor Air Pollution (IAP) resulting from indoor burning of solid biomass fuels in poorly ventilated kitchens is a severe health risk in parts of the world where energy poverty is prevalent. Passive ventilation, i.e. taking advantage of naturally induced airflow has been suggested as crucial in reducing IAP levels below safe limits. READ MORE
