  1. 6. Exploring the Impact of Pseudo and Quasi Random Number Generators on Monte Carlo Integration of the Multivariate Normal Distribution

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Statistiska institutionen

    Author : Marcus Stolz; Jonathan Christopher; [2024]
    Keywords : Monte Carlo integration; Quasi monte carlo integration; Random number generation; Mathematics and Statistics;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the effects of pseudo and quasi-random number generators on the accuracy and efficiency of Monte Carlo Integration in the case of the multivariate normal distribution. The study compares the performance of the Mersenne Twister (a pseudo-random number generator) with Sobol and Halton sequences (quasi-random number generators). READ MORE

  2. 7. A participatory approach to eliminating Musculoskeletal disorder risk factors in a paper industry workflow : Developing an assisting tool for paper industry workers by exploring work tasks through participatory design activities

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Institutionen för ekonomi, teknik, konst och samhälle

    Author : Johan Lindqvist; [2024]
    Keywords : Participatory design; Collaborative design; Workshop facilitation; Ergonomics; Musculoskeletal disorders; Antropometrics; Design thinking; Industrial design engineering; Work safety; Deltagande design; Participativ design; Co-design; Workshopfacilitering; Ergonomi; Belastningsergonomi; Antropometri; Design thinking; Industrial design engineering; Arbetsmiljöarbete;

    Abstract : This project was implemented as a Master thesis project in Industrial design engineering (IDE). In collaboration with Billerud Karlsborg, the project was initiated to develop proposal for a technological solution for eliminating a manual handling work task in the production line for coated paper products. 3. 8. Shifting focus from yields to food supply : an evaluation of the ‘number of people fed per hectare’ indicator at farm and national level

    University essay from SLU/Department of Molecular Sciences

    Author : Ida Ekqvist; [2024]
    Keywords : Land use efficiency; Sustainability indicators; Agricultural productivity; Food production;

    Abstract : The challenge of feeding a growing global population while reducing the pressure on climate and ecosystems has gained much attention in research over the last decades. A crucial yet often overlooked aspect in research addressing this complex challenge is the efficiency of food production in meeting nutritional needs within the constraints of global cropland resources. 4. 9. Variational AutoEncoders and Differential Privacy : balancing data synthesis and privacy constraints

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Author : Baptiste Bremond; [2024]
    Keywords : TVAE; Differential privacy; Tabular data; Synthetic data; DP-SGD; TVAE; differentiell integritet; tabelldata; syntetiska data; DP-SGD;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the effectiveness of Tabular Variational Auto Encoders (TVAEs) in generating high-quality synthetic tabular data and assesses their compliance with differential privacy principles. The study shows that while TVAEs are better than VAEs at generating synthetic data that faithfully reproduces the distribution of real data as measured by the Synthetic Data Vault (SDV) metrics, the latter does not guarantee that the synthetic data is up to the task in practical industrial applications. 5. 10. Pheromone-based mating disruption to control Spodoptera frugiperda in Tanzania: Possibilites and Constraints for smallholders

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Biosystems and Technology (from 130101)

    Author : Thomas O'Malley; [2024]
    Keywords : pheromone; mating disruption; fall armyworm; Tanzania; smallholder; Spodeptera frugiperda; integrated pest; management;

    Abstract : Despite a growing interest in the use of pheromones as a more sustainable form of pest control, their use remains unstudied in the smallholder context. This paper is one of the first to study their use by small scale Tanzanian maize farmers to control the invasive pest Spodoptera frugiperda (known as fall armyworm). READ MORE
