  1. 6. INVESTIGATING THE TOXIC AND ACIDIFYING EFFECT OF SCRUBBER EFFLUENT ON STRONGYLOCENTROTUS DROEBACHIENSIS LARVAE

    University essay from Göteborgs universitet / Instiutionen för biologi och miljövetenskap

    Author : Ida Vartia; [2022-09-28]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : To meet the new environmental requirements of reduced sulfur emissions from ships, many shipowners have installed an open-loop scrubber to clean the exhaust. In this scrubbing process, seawater is pumped from the ocean and combined with the emission gas, creating an acidic and toxic effluent that is directly discharged into the ocean, potentially damaging the marine environment. 2. 7. REMOVAL OF PFAS FROM WASTEWATER THROUGH ADSORPTION AND SORBENT INCINERATION

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Institutionen för samhällsbyggnad och naturresurser

    Author : Aston Sandblad; [2022]
    Keywords : PFAS; Adsorption; Incineration;

    Abstract : Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, PFAS, are a manufactured group of chemicals that have been found to be toxic to humans and the environment. Exposure to PFAS may include birth defects for infants as well as an increased risk of cancer. READ MORE

  3. 8. Analysis of polyfunctional thiols in beer : Developing a novel method of extraction and analysis using GC-FID

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Livsmedelsteknik och nutrition (master)

    Author : Arvid Lindmark; [2022]
    Keywords : Beer; Hops; Thiols; 3MHA; 4MMP; Food Technology; Agriculture and Food Sciences;

    Abstract : In this project, attempts were made to identify and quantify two polyfunctional thiols – 4-mercapto-4-methyl-pentanone and 3-mercaptohexyl acetate – and three monoterpene alcohols – linalool, geraniol, and β-citronellol – in beer samples. In order to avoid the use of hazardous compounds such as dichloromethane and hydroxymercuriobenzoate, common in traditional methods, two novel techniques were tested: a pure liquid-liquid extraction of the beer samples with cyclohexane, and a liquid-liquid extraction with cyclohexane followed by solid phase extraction on silver ion columns. 4. 9. Negative CO2 Emissions from Chemical Looping Combustion: Gas Cleaning for CO2 Storage

    University essay from KTH/Kemiteknik

    Author : Laura Raud Pettersson; [2022]
    Keywords : Chemical Looping Combustion; Flue Gas Treatment; Negative emissions; Biomass; CCS; Linde Hampson; Cryogenic Separation; Kemcyklisk Förbränning; Rökgasrening; Negativa Utsläpp; CCS; Biomassa; Linde Hampson; Kryogen Destillation;

    Abstract : Kemcyklisk förbränning (CLC) involverar en icke komplex separation av den bildade koldioxiden (CO2) efter förbränningen eftersom syret (O2) överförs till bränslet via en syrebärare som cirkulerar mellan luft- och bränslereaktorn. Eftersom O2 separeras effektivt från kvävgasen (N2) i luftreaktorn, erhålls en produkt gas som till majoriteten består av CO2 och vatten (H2O). READ MORE

  5. 10. Phasing out peat from a co-fired 50 MWth circulating fluidized bed boiler : A theoretical sulfation potential study

    University essay from Umeå universitet/Institutionen för tillämpad fysik och elektronik

    Author : Axel Bergstrand; [2022]
    Keywords : Peat; corrosion; fuel mixture; CFB; circulating fluidized bed; S; alkali chlorides; Sulfur; additives; combustion; fuel design; alkali related corrosion;

    Abstract : The chemical company Perstorp AB has a 50 MWth circulating fluidized bed to supply the production plant with process steam. The fuel mixture used shows a large variation with about 20 different fuel fractions that can be divided into the categories, residue wood chips, sludge, forest fuel, animal waste, industrial residues, and peat.
