  1. 11. Solving Rubik’s Cube with Non-Standard Moves

    University essay from KTH/Matematik (Avd.)

    Author : Laurent van Eesbeeck; [2014]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Still another thesis on Rubik’s cube? Is there still something new to write on that puzzle? In this document, we approach the cube with a rather unusual question: “how would you solve the cube if, instead of using the 6 classical rotations, you were restricted to a set of arbitrary moves?” To answer that question, we will dive into group theory. Inspired by some previous work on the factorization of the symmetric group, we have developed an algorithm that answers our initial question. READ MORE

  2. 12. The Square-Root Isometry of Coupled Quadratic Spaces : On the relation between vielbein and metric formulations of spin-2 interactions

    University essay from Stockholms universitet/Fysikum; Stockholms universitet/Oskar Klein-centrum för kosmopartikelfysik (OKC)

    Author : Kocic Mikica B.; [2014]
    Keywords : modified gravity; bigravity; bimetric theory; square-root isometry;

    Abstract : Bimetric theory is an extension to general relativity that introduces a secondary symmetric rank-two tensor field. This secondary spin-2 field is also dynamical, and to avoid the Boulware-Deser ghost issue, the interaction between the two fields is obtained through a potential that involes the matrix square-root of the tensors. 3. 13. Constant mean curvature surfaces in hyperbolic 3-space

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för fysik och astronomi

    Author : Erik Raab; [2014]
    Keywords : String theory; hyperbolic 3-space; DPW-method;

    Abstract : The aim of this bachelor's thesis has been to investigate surfaces that are the main contributions to scattering amplitudes in a type of string theory. These are constant mean curvature surfaces in hyperbolic 3-space. Classically the way to find such surfaces has been to solve a non-linear partial differential equation. READ MORE

  4. 14. The Long-Distance Relationship  : The Issue of Family Separation and Its Effects on Somali Integration in Sweden

    University essay from Institutionen för samhällsvetenskaper, SV

    Author : Emil Hafström; [2012]
    Keywords : Somalis; Sweden; Family Separation; Identity; Citizenship; Integration; Anomie;

    Abstract : Statistics regarding Somalis’ integration in Sweden, indicates that this group have a hard time to become integrated, currently being characterized by high levels of unemployment, low levels of education and as being residentially segregated. Today, many Somalis reside in Sweden separated from their family. READ MORE
