  1. 1. Time-resolved x-ray diffraction study of longitudinal optical phonons in zincblende semiconductors

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Atomfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Lassi Linnala; [2022]
    Keywords : femtosecond THz radiation; ultrafast x-ray diffraction; pump-probe; longitudinal optical phonons; zincblende semiconductors; anharmonic decay; density functional perturbation theory; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : Anharmonic decay of longitudinal optical (LO) phonons in zincblende semiconductors is not at present well characterized due to the polar and many-body nature of the problem. Femtosecond THz radiation offers a novel route to this study, as the interaction of this radiation is directly with the phonon lattice and these THz excited phonons do not have enough energy to excite electrons over the band gap. 2. 2. Pulsed Laser Beam Quality Assessment via Phase Retrieval

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Atomfysik

    Author : Mattias Ammitzböll; [2021]
    Keywords : GSA; phase retrieval; Gerchberg-Saxton; femtosecond; pulsed; laser; beam quality; attosecond; interferometry; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : In the search for a better understanding of the fundamental nature of the atom, the development of femtosecond pulsed laser sources has opened up for many applications, in particular in time-resolved physics. For many of those, like the generation of attosecond pulses through high-order harmonic generation, high intensity is needed and the quality of the beam is a critical factor. READ MORE

  3. 3. Femtosecond Photoemission Electron Microscopy of Indium Arsenide Nanowires

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Synkrotronljusfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Björn Johansson; [2018]
    Keywords : Indium Arsenide; PEEM; Femtosecond laser; Time-resolved PEEM; InAs; Wurtzite; zinc blende; pump-probe; Photoemission Electron Microscopy; pulsed laser.; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : PhotoEmission Electron Microscopy (PEEM) has proven to be a successful method for examining the electronic characteristics of nanostructures. The experiments relevant for the following report were conducted using a combination of PEEM and a femtosecond pulsed laser to determine the electrical characteristics of Indium Arsenide nanowire of crystal structure varying between wurtzite and zinc blend. 4. 4. Element-Specific Magnetization Dynamics Using T-MOKE at the HELIOS Laboratory

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Molekyl- och kondenserade materiens fysik

    Author : Fredrik Stångberg Valgeborg; [2016]
    Keywords : magnetization dynamics; magnetization; demagnetization; magnetism; element-specific; element-specificity; T-MOKE; MOKE; pump-prob; time-resolved pump-probe; HHG; high-order harmonic generation; overtone generation; HELIOS; magnetiseringsdynamik; magnetisering; avmagnetisering; magnetism; grundämnesspecifik; grundämnesspecificitet; T-MOKE; MOKE; pump-prob; tidsupplöst pump-prob; HHG; övertonsgenerering; HELIOS;

    Abstract : Magnetism is a familiar phenomenon, and is applied in a variety of devices, from simple ones, like compasses, to the more sophisticated magnetic hard disk drives. It is also known that the magnetization of a material can change, for example by heating or by exposure to an external magnetic field. READ MORE

  5. 5. Flexible Time-Resolved Magneto-Optical Measurements

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Materialfysik

    Author : Pier Silvio TIbaldi Tibaldi; [2016]
    Keywords : TR-MOKE; Kerr; magnetization dynamics; magneto-optical effect; Time-resolved magneto-optical Kerr effect;

    Abstract : We present a time-resolved Kerr microscope, capable of measuring the magnetization dynamics of samples grown on transparent, double-side-polished substrates.The magnetization is excited by a current pulse, using a coplanar waveguide placed beneath the samples. READ MORE
