  1. 1. Zooësis and Contemporary Art : Animal, Plant, and Machine Ontologies: Art Representations Beyond the Human

    University essay from Stockholms universitet/Institutionen för kultur och estetik

    Author : Anna Pernilla Olofsson Hjorth; [2022]
    Keywords : Human-Nonhuman-Animal Studies; Zooësis; Biopolitical Aesthetics; Material Semiotics; Historical Animal Studies; Cultural Plant Studies; Taxidermy; BioArt; Plant-Art; Cyborg; Hybrid-Artifact;

    Abstract : What does it mean to take Animals, Plants, and Machines seriously when engaging in hybrid natures such as bioart, plant-art, taxidermy art and cyborgs in contemporary art?  Traditionally within art history the focus has been on human culture as the fundamental underpinning for cultural behaviour and productions, consequently rendering animal and plant histories invisible from the analysis of artworks. In this thesis I attend to the bodies of animals, plants, and machines put in the context of the zooësis (places/contact zones) of these bodies as biopolitical aesthetics (aesthetic bodies/objects) in contemporary art. 2. 2. Genetically modified tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) plants for an increased production of wax esters

    University essay from SLU/Dept. Of Plant Biology

    Author : Linn Nilsson; [2022]
    Keywords : Wax esters; metabolic engineering; nicotiana tabacum; fatty acid reductase; phytyl ester synthase;

    Abstract : Wax esters (WE) are naturally occurring lipids consisting of a fatty acid bound to a fatty alcohol with an ester bond. As an alternative to petrochemicals, plant-derived WE:s are of considerable commercial interest as lubricants, but have in recent years also received great attention for their potential as a starting material for bio-fuel production. 3. 3. Regulation of Plant Defense Genes Against Bacterial Pathogens

    University essay from KTH/Proteinvetenskap

    Author : Jenny Sjöström; [2021]
    Keywords : plant defense; PTI; FLS2; SERK1; regulation; växtförsvar; PTI; FLS2; SERK1; reglering;

    Abstract : Sjukdom på grödor orsakad av bakterier kan bidra till ekonomiska förluster för bönder samt brist på mat, därför är det viktigt att utveckla nya hållbara sätt att motverka och behandla grödor mot bakterier. Idag är det mest vanliga tillvägagångssättet antibiotika men detta är inte hållbart p.g.a uppkomst av antibiotikaresistens. READ MORE

  4. 4. Evaluation of GM trees expressing a fungal enzyme : investigating the effects of the fungal enzyme on activation of jasmonate signaling using JAZ10:GUS reporter lines of Arabidopsis

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Forest Genetics and Plant Physiology

    Author : Elin Bäckström; Therese Thalin; [2019]
    Keywords : cell wall formation; cell wall composition; genetic modification; genetic improvement; ; GUS;

    Abstract : The fungi enzyme glucuronoyl esterase can be used to change the cell wall composition in plants for easier extraction of cellulosic biomass compounds for the production of biomaterials and biofuels. However, previous studies have shown that expression of glucuronoyl esterase in plants causes stress response, mediated by jasmonate signaling, and growth penalty. READ MORE

  5. 5. Rapsbaggen - en skadegörare i oljeväxter : litteratursammanställning av rapsbaggen som skadegörare i raps

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Ecology

    Author : Patrik Svanström; [2015]
    Keywords : rapsbagge; ekologi; oljeväxter; skadegörare; bekämpning; skördeförluster; bekämpningströsklar; insekticidresistens;

    Abstract : Rapsbaggen är en skadegörare i odling av oljeväxter och anses av många vara en av de viktigaste skadegörarna i grödan. Den allmänna uppfattningen i Sverige är att den är en skadegörare vilken kan orsaka totala skördeförluster om ingen bekämpning sker och denna uppfattning finner även stöd hos flera forskare. READ MORE
