  1. 6. Adjoint optimization of a liquid-cooled heat sink

    University essay from KTH/Teknisk mekanik

    Author : Roven Pinto; [2023]
    Keywords : Adjoint method; topology optimization; porosity; OpenFOAM;

    Abstract : Improving the design of flow channels in a liquid-cooled heat sink is critical for boosting the capabilities of electronic components as well as reducing energy usage by the pump. This work explores the use of topology optimization to minimize the pressure difference across a heat sink and consequently, the energy used to supply the liquid. READ MORE

  2. 7. Modelling Gas Flow Behaviour in Gas Atomizer

    University essay from KTH/Materialvetenskap

    Author : Aravind Senan Vasanthasenan Reji; [2022]
    Keywords : Gas atomization; Nozzle; Velocity; Static pressure; Discrete phase model; Gasatomisering; Munstycke; Hastighet; Statiskt tryck; Diskret fasmodell;

    Abstract : Gas atomization is regarded as a reliable method for creating high-quality metal powders from molten metal. The liquid metal is fed into the chamber as a free-falling stream through a nozzle, where it is impinged by high-velocity gas jets, causing degeneration and production of metal droplets, which solidify to create metal powders. 3. 8. Top - down control: parasitism and predation on Gonyostomum semen in Swedish brown water lakes

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för biologisk grundutbildning

    Author : Ingrid Bergman; [2022]
    Keywords : limnology; phytoplankton; top-down control;

    Abstract : Gonyostomum semen is a raphidophyte microalgae that can be found in brown water lakes all over Sweden. The species forms substantial summer blooms that can completely dominate the phytoplankton community, largely due to its limited grazing pressure. To test whether parasites control the abundance of G. READ MORE

  4. 9. Multidisciplinary Modelling of Water Piston Oscillations in Wave Energy Converters : Assessment of Flow Resistance Through CFD Modelling with Fluid Structure Interactions

    University essay from Karlstads universitet/Institutionen för ingenjörs- och kemivetenskaper (from 2013)

    Author : Linnéa Tebelius; [2022]
    Keywords : Fluid Mechanics; Point Absorber; CFD; WEC; Waves4Power; Strömnigsmekanik; Point Absorber; CFD; WEC; Waves4Power;

    Abstract : As the world’s need for electricity increases, so does its demand for sustainable energy with low to no greenhouse gas emissions. One of these renewable sources of energy is the Ocean which is one of the world’s largest and most predictable energy source, where the extraction of energy can be from waves or tidal current, with zero greenhouse gas emissions during production. 5. 10. Design of compact automotive heat exchanger, analysing the effects of RANS models and utilising Additive Manufacturing

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Nikhil Srikkanth; Bartosz Brzuchalski; [2022]
    Keywords : Turbulence; Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes; KTH Formula Student; metal additive manufacturing; CFD; turbulent kinetic energy; boundary layer;

    Abstract : The analytical modelling of complex turbulent airflow remains one of the great unsolved mysteries of physics, but in this paper two widely used Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes models (k-$\epsilon$ and k-$\omega$ SST) are compared while designing a heat exchanger for the KTH Formula Student electric race car. CAD software was used to design lattices for the heat exchanger core and theorise about how to increase heat transfer while also taking into account the utilisation of metal additive manufacturing.
