Interactive 3D Knowledge Platform for Reconstructive Plastic Surgery

University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för informationsteknologi

Abstract: There is a lack of technical platforms where reconstructive surgeons around the world can share their knowledge and experience. This problem is especially prevalent in developing countries, where surgeons rely on inadequate means for preparing operations. This project is called Lambå-Atlas and addresses this issue by providing the surgeons with an intuitive website. It consists of an interactive human 3D model, where surgical instructions are accessible by clicking on the respective body parts. The purpose of Lambå-Atlas is to assist reconstructive surgeons with suggestions and assessments of suitable surgeries based on the required medical equipment and experience. The goal of this project was to create an educational platform that promotes knowledge exchange. Lambå-Atlas has achieved this by providing a website that aids reconstructive surgeons by letting them navigate a 3D human model and suggest suitable surgery instructions based on a chosen body part.
