Nurse professional competence in international collaborative nursing students : A questionnaire study

Abstract: Background: In recent years, the health system is constantly facing new challenges, and the standards of nursing professional competence of nurses are constantly developing. As the international collaborative nursing students under the new teaching mode, their nursing professional competence is worth studying.Aim: To assess the level of the nurse professional competence in international collaborative nursing students.Method: A descriptive and comparative survey was designed. Nurse Professional Competence Scale short form and General Information Questionnaire were used to investigate the Nurse Professional Competence in international collaborative nursing students. A convenience sample of 260 international collaborative nursing students from year 1, 2 and 3 in which 182 were recruited to participate. SPSS (26.0) was used to analysis data.Result: The mean score of total Nurse Professional Competence was 75.4, with the lowest means core in Development, leadership and organization of nursing care (M=71.5) and the highest mean score in Value-based nursing care (M=80.0). There were significant differences in their respective scores.Conclusions: Among year 1, 2, and 3, year 3 students had the highest self-evaluation score of nursing professional competence, while year 1 students had the lowest.Keywords: International collaborative; Nursing students; Nurse professional competence
