Abstract: Elevator control strategies is a well studied field, where a lot of efforthas been put in to developing efficient strategy that minimize the wait-ing and travel time. The purpose of this paper is to examine how twodifferent versions of Collective Operation perform. The objective is todetermine if it is possible to reduce the number of elevators requiredwhile still maintaining the requirement that the average waiting timedo not exceed 30 seconds. To carry out the study, a program that simulates an office build-ing with eight floors has been developed. The program simulates theperformance of the two strategies with one to eight elevators. A Pois-son distribution of the incoming, interfloor, and outgoing traffic hasbeen created based on data supplied by Peters Research. An improvedelevator control strategy was found to be able to maintain the per-formance of the system, even though the number of elevators in theelevator group were reduced.
