  1. 1. Do Major Facilitator Superfamily Domain Containing Proteins Respond to Glucose Starvation?

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för farmaceutisk biovetenskap

    Author : Lydia Weldai; [2017]
    Keywords : MFSD Proteins;

    Abstract : The human brain weighs around 2% of the total body mass, nevertheless it consumes about 20% of the total glucose intake. Glucose, the main energy source of the brain, is important for many processes, for instance as energy for synthesis of neurotransmitters. Therefore a stable glucose concentration in the brain is crucial. READ MORE

  2. 2. Regulations of catabolic and anabolic mechanisms; the interactions between exercise, carbohydrates and an excessive intake of amino acids : A review of some of the metabolic pathways that affects the homeostasis of the body, as well as β-oxidation and protein synthesis

    University essay from Högskolan i Halmstad; Sektionen för ekonomi och teknik (SET)

    Author : Anne Hanselius; Karoline Eldemark; [2010]
    Keywords : catabolism; anabolism; exercise; lipolysis; protein synthesis; carbohydrates;

    Abstract : Insulin as well as glucagon are important hormones in maintaining glucose homeostasis and regulating the metabolism in the body. Insulin receptors (IR) are transmembrane receptors that promote a signal transduction when activated by insulin. READ MORE

  3. 3. An Investigation of the Nano-Organization of Glucose Transporters, Glut1 and Glut3, in the Mammalian Plasma Membrane

    University essay from Institutionen för vård och natur

    Author : Dommaraju Sireesha; [2008]
    Keywords : Sireesha; Dommaraju; Gluts; Sweden; Denmark; skovde; Odense; skovde University; SDU university;

    Abstract : Glucose is a monosaccharide and fuel for body, it cannot pass through membrane by simple diffusion so, integral transmembrane proteins named glucose transporters (Gluts) are involved in the regulation of the movement of glucose between the extracellular and intracellular spaces within the body. GLUT1 and GLUT3 have previously been shown by cold detergent extraction methods to reside in distinct plasma membrane domains in non-polarized mammalian cells, with GLUT1, but not GLUT3, residing  in detergent-resistant membrane (DRM) domains.
