  1. 1. Comparison of Fatigue Life Evaluation Methods

    University essay from KTH/Hållfasthetslära

    Author : Louise Hedberg Lundblad; Anna Lund; [2021]
    Keywords : Solid Mechanics; Fatigue; Time history methods; Spectral methods; Truck components; Road induced vibrations; Hållfasthetslära; Utmattning; Tidshistoriksmetoder; Spektrala metoder; Lastbilskomponenter; väginducerade vibrationer;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to investigate a selected set of fatigue life calculation methods and evaluate if they are suitable for fatigue life estimation of truck components at Scania. Failure due to fatigue can be cause by road induced vibrations, which is an inevitable phenomenon trucks are exposed to. READ MORE

  2. 2. Transient and Spectral Fatigue Analysis for Random Base Excitation

    University essay from

    Author : Albin Bäckstrand; Prithviraj Madhava Acharya; [2019-09-16T10:43:03Z 2019-09-16T10:43:03Z 2019 2019]
    Keywords : Spectral fatigue analysis; transient fatigue analysis; power spectral density PSD ; transfer function; base excitation; Dirlik s empirical formula; equivalent von Mises stress EVMS ; rainflow count; Wang and Brown s method; Dang Van equivalent stress; Palmgren-Miner rule;

    Abstract : This thesis work gives an insight on how to estimate the fatigue damage using transient and spectral fatigue analysis for both uniaxial and multiaxial stress states in case of random vibration base excitation. The transient method involves a rainflow count algorithm that counts the number of cycles causing the fatigue damage, while the spectral method is based on probabilistic assumptions from which an expected value of fatigue damage can be estimated. 3. 3. Estimation of fatigue life by using a cyclic plasticity model and multiaxial notch correction

    University essay from Linköpings universitet/Mekanik och hållfasthetslära

    Author : Nils Johansson; [2019]
    Keywords : Multiaxial load; fatigue; notch; elastic-plastic; stress-strain; non-proportional load; incremental Neuber; damage parameter;

    Abstract : Mechanical components often possess notches. These notches give rise to stress concentrations, which in turn increases the likelihood that the material will undergo yielding. The finite element method (FEM) can be used to calculate transient stress and strain to be used in fatigue analyses. READ MORE

  4. 4. Mechanical and Thermal Characterisation of Novel UHMWPE Composites for Total Joint Arthroplasty

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Institutionen för teknikvetenskap och matematik

    Author : Julian Somberg; [2019]
    Keywords : UHMWPE; Nanocomposites; DSC; Fracture Toughness; Wear;

    Abstract : Total joint arthroplasty surgeries are known to have a high success rate but the longevity of the implants still acts as a limiting factor. Ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene is the material of choice for the implant bearing surfaces due to its excellent clinical and tribological performance. READ MORE

  5. 5. Continuous Time Fatigue Modelling for Non-proportional Loading

    University essay from Linköpings universitet/Mekanik och hållfasthetslära

    Author : Sajjan Gundmi Satish; [2019]
    Keywords : Multiaxial Fatigue Loading; Fatigue Analysis; Continuous Time fatigue model; Endurance Surface; Rainflow Counting; Cyclic loading; Cycle Counting; Damage Evolution; High-cycle fatigue; Non-proportional loading;

    Abstract : Fatigue analysis is a critical stage in the design of any structural component. Typically fatigue is analysed during post-processing, but as the size of the analysed component increases, the amount of data stored for the analysis increases simultaneously. READ MORE
