  1. 21. Vegetation phenology derived using the plant phenology index and the normalized difference vegetation index for the Balkan peninsula, south-eastern Europe

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Aleksandra Ivanova; [2019]
    Keywords : physical geography; ecosystem analysis; phenology; vegetation; climate change; remote sensing; plant phenology index; PPI; timesat; Balkan peninsula; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : This study analyses the performance of the satellite derived Plant Phenology Index (PPI) against the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) for estimating start of season (SOS) and end of season (EOS) of vegetation growth in part of the Balkan Peninsula, Southeastern Europe (2000 – 2016). Results revealed that PPI and NDVI differ considerably; SOS and EOS may diverge by more than one month between the two indices. READ MORE

  2. 22. Analysis of spatial-temporal pattern of Land Surface Temperature (LST) due to NDVI and elevation in Ilorin, Nigeria

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Elijah A Njoku; [2019]
    Keywords : GIS; LST; Vegetation cover; Ilorin; Elevation; Urban Heat Island; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : The rate of global urbanization in the 21st century has been unprecedented especially in the African and the Asian continents. Urbanization typically causes a removal of natural vegetation and replacement of same with impervious and non-evaporative urban materials with high heat capacity and low solar reflectivity. 3. 23. Vegetation responses to summer- and winter warming : flower power in the Alaskan tussock tundra?

    University essay from Umeå universitet/Institutionen för ekologi, miljö och geovetenskap

    Author : Maja Wressel; [2018]
    Keywords : Arctic vegetation; snow depth; warming; vertical root distribution; tundra;

    Abstract : Plants have an important role in the tundra carbon (C) cycle by storing C in primary production and thus potentially counteract the C released from thawing permafrost. Tundra vegetation is limited by nitrogen (N), which is predicted to increase with rising temperatures and increased snow depth. READ MORE

  4. 24. Radiometric correction of multispectral images collected by a UAV for phenology studies

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Karl Adler; [2018]
    Keywords : physical geography; UAV; radiometric correction; multispectral camera; reflectance; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Vegetation monitoring over time is important in a changing world due to climate change. Remote sensing, especially with the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), can be utilized to monitor vegetation at flexible scales at an accurate degree. READ MORE

  5. 25. Factors affecting timing of seasonal migration by roe deer (Capreolus capreolus)

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Ecology

    Author : Linda Höglund; [2018]
    Keywords : roe deer; Capreolus capreolus; seasonal migration; home range; NDVI;

    Abstract : Roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) live in diverse environmental conditions due to their wide distribution. Because of their high variety of living conditions it is common that some individuals in a population have different summer and winter areas. READ MORE
