  1. 1. Misalignment effects on the physics performance of the inner tracker upgrade at the ALICE experiment

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik

    Author : Jesper Karlsson Gumprecht; [2024]
    Keywords : ALICE; ITS; ITS2; ITS3; O2; O2Physics; Distortion; Misalignment; Alignment; Realignment; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the physics performance of an approved inner tracker upgrade of the ALICE experiment involving a novel and ultra-thin silicon detector with a cylindrical geometry. During the thesis work, a method was developed in simulations to induce distortions to the detector’s geometry, and the resulting loss in physics performance was evaluated. READ MORE

  2. 2. Foliar fungal communities of naturally regenerated and nursery-produced Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) seedlings

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Forest Mycology and Plant Pathology

    Author : Sara López Fernández; [2023]
    Keywords : Endophytes; high-throughput sequencing; foliar fungi; forest nursery; fungal community; fungal pathogens; metabarcoding; mycobiome; Pinus sylvestris; pine seedlings; Scots pine needles;

    Abstract : Endophytic fungal communities living in leaves of trees can have a significant impact on their hosts,showing both beneficial and detrimental effects. Some mutualistic fungal species protect the host against pathogens or herbivores, while pathogenic species can increase the vulnerability of the host against biotic and abiotic stresses. READ MORE

  3. 3. Biological control of fungal diseases in a forest nursery : impact on the fungal community, species abundance and some fungal pathogens

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Forest Mycology and Plant Pathology

    Author : Elin Persson; [2020]
    Keywords : biological control; forest nursery; fungal communities; pathogens; metabarcoding;

    Abstract : There is a large production of regeneration material in Sweden, where modernization and new technologies have made it possible to produce a large number of high-quality seedlings. To provide the whole forestry sector with seedlings for regeneration, forest nurseries must as well make sure that the management generate healthy seedlings. READ MORE

  4. 4. Development of a loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) and a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays for diagnosis of Fasciola hepatica in animal faeces and comparison with traditional diagnostic methods

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Biomedical Sciences and Veterinary Public Health

    Author : Maria Immaculata Arifin; [2016]
    Keywords : Fasciola hepatica; faeces; sheep; cattle; diagnosis; loop-mediated isothermal amplification; PCR; serology; coprology;

    Abstract : The liver fluke Fasciola hepatica is a parasitic trematode prevalent in mammals, primarily in sheep and cattle. There is a wide range of methods for diagnosis of F. hepatica infections, such as coproscopy, coproantigen ELISA, serum ELISA, PCR and Loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP). READ MORE

  5. 5. Extracting fungal DNA from drill- and biofilm samples from wood in logs

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Forest Mycology and Plant Pathology

    Author : Niklas Wickander; [2016]
    Keywords : lichen; DNA-extraction; ITS-region; barcode;

    Abstract : The fungal kingdom is a large group of eukaryotic organisms consisting of more than 100 000 known and an expected number of more than 1 million species with a wide variety of lifestyles. Among these lifestyles is a symbiotic lifestyle that has been of importance for lichen forming fungi. READ MORE
