  1. 1. Simulation of Residual Stresses in Cemented Carbide

    University essay from KTH/Teknisk mekanik

    Author : Emma Lundin; [2021]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Cemented carbides are used in a multitude of applications within machining as they can withstand tough conditions. Therefore, the stress state in a virgin material is of interest. READ MORE

  2. 2. Modelling of Laser Welding of Aluminium using COMSOL Multiphysics

    University essay from KTH/Materialvetenskap

    Author : Jie Chen; [2020]
    Keywords : laser welding process; aluminium alloy; thermal-mechanical; COMSOL Multiphysics; hot cracking; thermal model; CFD model; mechanical model; Marangoni effect; lasersvetsningsprocess; aluminiumlegeringar; termisk-mekanisk; COMSOL-flerfysik; hetsprickning; termisk modell; CFD-modell; mekanisk modell; Marangoni-effekt;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a modelling approach of laser welding process of aluminium alloy from the thermo-mechanical point of view to evaluate the occurrence of hot cracking based on simulation results and relevant criteria. The model was created stepwise in COMSOL Multiphysics, starting with the thermal model where heat conduction of solid and liquid phase was computed. READ MORE

  3. 3. Development of a Method to Measure Residual Stresses in Cast Components with Complex Geometries

    University essay from KTH/Materialvetenskap

    Author : Yang Yang; [2020]
    Keywords : Residual Stresses; Cast Iron; Engine Components; XRD; Ultrasonic; Cutting;

    Abstract : Cast iron, taking the advantages of the advanced castability forming components of complex geometries and favorable mechanical properties, is employed in engine components in truck industries. Compacted graphite iron (CGI) integrates both merits of lamellar graphite iron (LGI) and spheroidal graphite iron (SGI) such as good machinability and high thermal conductivity from LGI, high ultimate tensile strength (UTS), good fatigue resistance, high elastic modulus, and high ductility from SGI, thus is now becoming a competitive alternative of traditional LGI in cylinder blocks and heads. 4. 4. Residual stresses in Ti-6Al-4V from low energy laser repair welding

    University essay from KTH/Maskinkonstruktion (Inst.)

    Author : Peter Ericson; [2018]
    Keywords : Micro laser welding; Low energy welding; Ti-6Al-4V; Ti64; Residual stress; Response Surface Methodology; Repair welding; Welding simulation; Mikrolasersvetsning; Lågenergetisk svetsning; Lågenergisvets; Ti-6Al-4V; Ti64; Restspänningar; Response Surface Methodology; Reparationssvets; Svetssimulering;

    Abstract : Millimeterstora och svårupptäckta defekter kan uppstå internt i stora och komplexa gjutgods av Ti-6Al-4V, ibland går dessa oupptäckta tills detaljen genomgått mekanisk bearbetning och en stor kostnad redan har gått in i den. Dessa defekter och andra industriella olyckshändelser leder till ett behov av additiva reparationsmetoder där den för tillfället rådande metoden är TIG-svetsning. READ MORE

  5. 5. Simulation of fatigue crack growth in coated cemented carbide milling inserts

    University essay from KTH/Hållfasthetslära (Avd.)

    Author : André Tengstrand; [2017]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The aim of this work is to create a nite element model that simulates fatigue crack growth in coated cemented carbide milling inserts. A typical fatigue wear of coated milling tools are comb crack formation on the cutting edges of the tool inserts. Comb cracks initiate from pre-existent cooling cracks in the coating layers. READ MORE
