  1. 1. Boric acid as a lubricating additive in fuels and in hydraulic oils

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Tillämpad materialvetenskap

    Author : Simon Ström; [2018]
    Keywords : Boric acid; tribology; lubricant; fuel; hydraulic oil; additive;

    Abstract : Boric acid based fuel and oil additives were investigated in this study, with the aims to gain a deeper understanding of how the boric acid fuel additive behaves, to investigate the effect of low rates of fuel additive addition and tribofilm longevity, and to investigate how boric acid behaves as a hydraulic oil additive. Fuel additive experiments were performed in a reciprocating sliding rig with a cylinder on flat contact geometry with fuel additive sprayed on the contact repeatedly, whereas the hydraulic oil experiments were performed in a reciprocating sliding rig with a ball on flat contact with the oil and additive present from the start. 2. 2. REDESIGN OF A TRIBOLOGICAL TEST MACHINE

    University essay from Högskolan i Jönköping/JTH, Maskinteknik

    Author : Daniel Hsiung; [2016]
    Keywords : Tribology; friction-induced vibrations; ASTM standard; product development; sliding wear test mechanic; ball-on-flat;

    Abstract : The present work deals with developing a tribological test machine that had been built earlier but did not function properly. It was giving out abnormal noises and vibrations and was not corresponding to its desired functions. READ MORE

  3. 3. Tribological testing of DLC coatings for automotive applications

    University essay from Tillämpad materialvetenskap

    Author : Viktor Renman; [2012]
    Keywords : DLC; wear; friction; tribology; diamond-like carbon; automotive; engine oils; fuels;

    Abstract : In this work, the friction and wear behavior of three DLC coatings was evaluated in various conventional and alternative fuels as well as in commercially available formulated engine oils and additive-free synthetic oil. The first DLC has a thin top-coating of hydrogenated amorphous carbon (a-C:H), the second consists of Si-doped DLC (a-C:H:Si) and the third is a W-doped multilayered structure of a-C:H and a-C:H:W.
