  1. 1. Computational Fluid Dynamics and Modeling of a Free Surface Flow

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för teknikvetenskap (SCI)

    Author : Mathieu Marmier; [2023]
    Keywords : CFD; Free Surface Flow; VOF; STAR-CCM ; Multiphase Simulation; Nuclear Engineering; Fluid Mechanics;

    Abstract : This project deals with the CFD modelling of a free surface flow. The aim is to develop and validate a fast and accurate numerical model for stratified two-phase flows. Volume of Fluid (VOF) multiphase model is employed. The purpose is to use the developed numerical model for the design of an element within a compact nuclear reactor. READ MORE

  2. 2. Design of compact automotive heat exchanger, analysing the effects of RANS models and utilising Additive Manufacturing

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Nikhil Srikkanth; Bartosz Brzuchalski; [2022]
    Keywords : Turbulence; Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes; KTH Formula Student; metal additive manufacturing; CFD; turbulent kinetic energy; boundary layer;

    Abstract : The analytical modelling of complex turbulent airflow remains one of the great unsolved mysteries of physics, but in this paper two widely used Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes models (k-$\epsilon$ and k-$\omega$ SST) are compared while designing a heat exchanger for the KTH Formula Student electric race car. CAD software was used to design lattices for the heat exchanger core and theorise about how to increase heat transfer while also taking into account the utilisation of metal additive manufacturing. 3. 3. Investigation on Operation of the Compact Molten Salt Reactor by Modelling the Primary Circuit in GeN-FOAM

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Jelle Oving; [2022]
    Keywords : molten salt reactor; GeN-Foam; delayed neutrons; OpenFOAM; multi-physics; smältsaltreaktor; GeN-Foam; fördröjda neutroner; OpenFOAM; multifysik;

    Abstract : In recent years there has been a revision of the molten salt nuclear reactor concept for production of power. Moving of fissile material throughout the primary circuit for these types of reactors creates the necessity of novel physics solvers to study movement of delayed neutron precursors, plant operation, accident scenario's; crucial for design. 4. 4. Efficiency verification of an electromechanical linear actuator

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för industriell teknik och management (ITM)

    Author : Ingela Råberg; [2021]
    Keywords : Efficiency; Linear actuator; Modelling; Romax; Linjärt ställdon; Modellering; Romax; Verkningsgrad;

    Abstract : Cascade Drives has developed an electromechanical linear actuator with a patented feature which allows for load sharing between multiple pinions interacting on the same rack. This arrangement has proven resilient for shock loads, and allows for compact gearbox designs with very high load rating. READ MORE

  5. 5. Modelling and simulation of vibratory driven sheet piles - Development of a stop criterion

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Byggnadsmekanik; Lunds universitet/Institutionen för byggvetenskaper

    Author : Johannes Jonsson; Anton Andersson; [2021]
    Keywords : Vibratory driving; sheet pile; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : During excavations, steel sheet piles are often installed through vibratory driving, to establish a retaining wall that resists soil instability and ground water leakage. The method of vibratory driving is that the sheet pile is driven into the soil with a vertical vibratory motion. This is especially effective in soft soils. READ MORE
