  2. 2. Environmental motives in the Buddhist ecology : A study of Thich Nhat Hanh’s ecology, engaged practice and environmental activism

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Religionshistoria

    Author : Unna Kontio; [2020]
    Keywords : Thich Nhat Hanh; environmentalism; engaged Buddhism; ecology;

  3. 3. The Largest Void and Cluster in Non-Standard Cosmology

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Teoretisk astrofysik

    Author : Sveva Castello; [2020]
    Keywords : Cosmology; f R gravity; galaxy clusters; cosmic voids; extreme value statistics;

    Abstract : We employ observational data about the largest cosmic void and most massive galaxy cluster known to date, the 'Cold Spot' void and the 'El Gordo' cluster, in order to constrain the parameter |fR0| from the f(R) gravity formulation by Hu and Sawicki and the matter power spectrum normalization at present time, σ8. We obtain the marginalized posterior distribution for these two parameters through a Markov Chain Monte Carlo analysis, where the likelihood function is modeled through extreme value statistics. 4. 4. Do variations in the initial mass function affect galaxy evolution?

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Astronomi; Lunds universitet/Institutionen för astronomi och teoretisk fysik

    Author : Mateo Prgomet; [2020]
    Keywords : galaxy; galaxy formation; galaxy evolution; feedback; star formation; ultra faint dwarf galaxy; initial mass function; variations; universe; redshift; hydrodynamics; cosmology; zoomed-in simulations Galaxy formation and evolution; galaxy feedback; stellar feedback; IMF variations; cosmological zoomed-in simulations; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The initial mass function (IMF) describes the stellar mass distribution for a population of stars at birth. This parameter represents a topic of long standing discussion within astronomy due to its apparent insensitive nature to environmental conditions. However, in the last decade, significant evidence suggesting the contrary has been presented. READ MORE

  5. 5. Chi-Squared Analysis of Measurements of Two Cosmological Parameters Over Time

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Observationell astrofysik

    Author : Timothy Faerber; [2019]
    Keywords : Cosmology Chi Squared Hubble Constant Amplitude of Mass Fluctuations Statistical Analysis;

    Abstract : For this project, a historical statistical analysis of the Amplitude of Mass Fluctuations ($\sigma_8$) and Hubble's Constant ($H_0$) parameters in the Standard Cosmological Model was carried out to determine whether or not the given error bars truly represent the dispersion of values. It was found through analysis of the Chi-Squared ($\chi^2$) values of the data that for $\sigma_8$ (60 data points and $\chi^2$ between 183. READ MORE
