  1. 16. Gradient formation in cemented carbides with 85Ni:15Fe-binder phase

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Tillämpad materialvetenskap

    Author : Niklas Larsson; [2015]
    Keywords : cemented carbide; alternative binderphase; sintering; gradient; hard metal;

    Abstract : In today’s inserts used for metal cutting the binder phase consists of cobalt (Co).However, EU’s REACH programme and the U.S’s National Toxicity Programme(NTP) classified Co as toxic/carcinogenic. Therefore, there is a strong need toinvestigate alternative binder phases. READ MORE

  2. 17. CO induced faceting of Rh(553)

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Synkrotronljusfysik

    Author : Ka Sin Lai; [2015]
    Keywords : Science General;

    Abstract : We have investigated the CO induced faceting of a Rh(553) surface using Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM), Low Energy Electron Diffraction (LEED) and Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES). The sample was exposed to a CO pressure of 1x10^-3 mbar, at different sample temperatures. READ MORE

  3. 18. Imaging of the Temperature Distribution in a Catalyst Test Chamber using Laser Rayleigh Scattering

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Förbränningsfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Sebastian Pfaff; [2015]
    Keywords : rayleigh scattering; combustion; laser induced fluorescence; catalyst; catalysis; laser rayleigh scattering; lif; lrs; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : In order to accurately measure the effect on the gas concentration around catalysts in a high pressure environment using laser based techniques such as Laser Induced Florescence (LIF), accurate temperature maps of the test chamber used are required. In order to create such temperature maps Laser Rayleigh Scattering (LRS) is utilized which allows for a non-intrusive probing of temperatures in a two dimensional measurement area. READ MORE

  4. 19. Quantum Chemical Feasibility Study of Methylamines as Nitrogen Precursors in Chemical Vapor Deposition

    University essay from Linköpings universitet/Kemi

    Author : Karl Rönnby; [2015]
    Keywords : Quantum Chemistry; Computational Chemistry; Density Functional Theory DFT ; B3LYP; Gaussian 4 G4 ; Chemical Vapor Deposition CVD ; Gallium Nitride GaN ; Aluminum Nitride AlN ; Ammonia NH3 ; Methylamine NH2CH3 ; Dimethylamine NH CH3 2 ; Trimethylamine NH CH3 3 ; Trimethylaluminum TMA ; Trimethylgallium TMG ; Decomposition; Adsorption;

    Abstract : The possibility of using methylamines instead of ammonia as a nitrogen precursor for the CVD of nitrides is studied using quantum chemical computations of reaction energies: reaction electronic energy (Δ𝑟𝐸𝑒𝑙𝑒𝑐) reaction enthalpy (Δ𝑟𝐻) and reaction free energy (Δ𝑟𝐺). The reaction energies were calculated for three types of reactions: Uni- and bimolecular decomposition to more reactive nitrogen species, adduct forming with trimethylgallium (TMG) and trimethylaluminum (TMA) followed by a release of methane or ethane and surface adsorption to gallium nitride for both the unreacted ammonia or methylamines or the decomposition products. 5. 20. Construction and Optimization of an Apparatus for Detection of Nitric Oxide through Faraday Modulation Spectroscopy

    University essay from Umeå universitet/Institutionen för fysik

    Author : Oskar Tengberg; [2015]
    Keywords : laser; spectroscopy; nitric; nitrogen; oxide; monoxide; faraday; modulation;

    Abstract : Faraday modulation spectroscopy (FAMOS) is a technique for detection of paramagnetic molecules. By applying a magnetic field over a gaseous sample, the presence of paramagnetic species will rotate the polarization plane of light, addressing a transition in such a species. READ MORE
