  1. 6. Petrography and Mineral Chemistry of the Sälskär Breccia (Alnö Alkaline Complex, Central Sweden)

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Vincent Gustafsson; [2022]
    Keywords : Alnö alkaline complex; diatreme; melilitite; pelletal lapilli; volcanic breccia; Alnö alkalina område; diatrem; melilitit; pelletal lapilli; vulkanisk breccia;

    Abstract : Primitive magmas can provide important details about the mantle from which they are derived. In this thesis, petrographic observations and new mineral chemistry analyses of the Sälskär breccia from the Alnö alkaline complex, central Sweden, are reported. READ MORE

  2. 7. Magnetic Mineralogy of Nb-bearing Carbonatites from Oldoinyo Dili (Tanzania)

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Julia Frejd; [2021]
    Keywords : carbonatites; niobium; rare earth elements; Oldoinyo Dili; magnetic properties; karbonatiter; niob; rare earth elements; Oldoinyo Dili; magnetiska egenskaper;

    Abstract : Niobium (Nb) and Rare Earth Elements (REE’s) have in recent years received considerable attention because of their importance to the modern technical industry, and more specifically the enhanced sustainability that comes with them. The main source for Nb and REE’s on Earth are carbonatites and associated alkaline silicate rocks. READ MORE

  3. 8. Unraveling the Tectonic History of the Aurek Metagabbro within the Seve Nappe Complex, Scandinavian Caledonides

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Sabine Rousku; [2021]
    Keywords : Scandinavian Caledonides; Seve Nappe Complex; Aurek metagabbro; Kebnekaise Mountains; Zircon U-Pb Geochronology; Thermodynamic modeling; Geochemistry; Skandinaviska Kaledoniderna; Seveskollan; Aurek metagabbro; Kebnekaisebergen; zirkon U-Pb geokronologi; Termodynamisk modellering; Geokemi;

    Abstract : The Scandinavian Caledonides form a mountain range comprising nappe stacks of numerous far-travelled thrust sheets. The thrust sheets consist of diverse lithologies representing pre- and synorogenic sedimentary and igneous rocks subsequently metamorphosed to various degrees, from the Late Neoproterozoic to Middle Devonian. 4. 9. Complex REE zonations in metamorphic garnet reflect accessory mineral reactions

    University essay from Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Niclas Hultin; [2020-05-29]
    Keywords : Rare Earth Elements; REEs; Garnet; LA-ICP-MS; Sesia zone; Metamorphism;

    Abstract : A garnet from the Sesia Zone, NW Italy, was selected for Major and Rare Earth Element (REE) mapping, using LA-ICP-MS – a procedure previously not conducted at the Department of Earth Science at University of Gothenburg. The original inclusion assemblage of the garnet is preserved, and the mapping revealed two distinct changes in both garnet chemistry and inclusion assemblage, both which can be linked to the metamorphic development of the region. 5. 10. An investigation of the interactions between clay nanoplatelets in the presence of monovalent and divalent salts, as well as cationic peptides utilising atomistic molecular dynamics

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Kemiska institutionen

    Author : Mona Koder Hamid; [2020]
    Keywords : clay; molecular dynamics simulations; physical chemistry; fysikalisk kemi; theoretical chemistry; teoretisk kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Clays are negatively charged nanoplatelets with a layered silicate structure. It has been observed from small angle X-ray scattering measurements, and coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulations (CG-MD) that clay nanoplatelets are able to form stacks, known as tactoids, in the presence of divalent or multivalent counterions [8, 5].
