  1. 1. Back analysis of rock mass properties in the regional fault zone under Lake Mälaren

    University essay from KTH/Jord- och bergmekanik

    Author : Jiaqi Liu; [2022]
    Keywords : Rock mass property; back analysis; tunnel deformation; optimization algorithm; numerical analysis; Bergmassans egenskaper; bakåtanalys; tunnleldeformation; optimeringingsalgoritm; numeriska analyser.;

    Abstract : The properties of the surrounding rock mass in underground projects have significant impacts on the design and construction. However, it is quite challenging to evaluate rock mass properties due to the great uncertainties of the geological conditions. READ MORE

  2. 2. Environmental and technical evaluation of cement reduction and test methods for fibre reinforced shotcrete in tunnels

    University essay from KTH/Betongbyggnad

    Author : Elin Brodd; Lina Östlund; [2022]
    Keywords : Shotcrete; Global Warming Potential; Environmental Product Declaration; Tunnel construction; Fibre reinforcement; Compressive strength; Residual strength; GGBS; Sprutbetong; Klimatpåverkan; Miljövarudeklaration; Tunnelbyggande; Fiberarmering; Tryckhållfasthet; Residualhållfasthet; Granulerad Masugnsslagg;

    Abstract : The dominating support method for hard rock tunnels today is use of fibre reinforced shotcrete in combination with rock bolts. The fibre reinforced shotcrete secures smaller blocks, while rock bolts are used to support larger blocks in the rock. Application of shotcrete is done by spraying against the rock surface using compressed air. READ MORE

  3. 3. Optimization of support in rock pillars between two parallel tunnels

    University essay from KTH/Jord- och bergmekanik

    Author : Alexander Kote; Sohaib Ishaq; [2022]
    Keywords : tunnel; rock pillar support; rock pillar stability; rock mass; stresses; arching effect; Nyckelord: tunnel; bergförstärkning; bergpelare; bergmassa; spänningar; valveffekt;

    Abstract : When two parallel tunnels are excavated under high to moderate horizontal in-situ stresses combined with minor deformations in the pillar between the tunnels, the in-situ stresses can be redistributed over the tunnels in form of two compressive arches and are transferred from the roof to the abutments of the two tunnels. At additional deformations in the pillar, a new redistribution of the stresses can occur creating one compressive arch over both of the tunnels. READ MORE

  4. 4. Underground Thermal Energy Storage for District Heating : A Feasibility Study

    University essay from KTH/Hållbar utveckling, miljövetenskap och teknik

    Author : Emma Arnfelt; [2022]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Global warming is one of the largest challenges and most important issues within the energy sector. As the society’s demand for energy increases, the environmental impact must continue to decrease to reach global targets. READ MORE

  5. 5. Design of tunnel support for single zones with swelling clay

    University essay from KTH/Jord- och bergmekanik

    Author : Taha Faris Nihayat; [2022]
    Keywords : Swelling clay; Rock support; Weakness zone; Design; Tunnel;

    Abstract : Swelling clay is an important and challenging geological feature in tunnelling projects.The behaviour of swelling clay is influenced by many internal and external factors.This, combined with a lack of experience and knowledge has resulted in challengeswhen accounting for the swelling phenomena.
