  1. 11. Experimental studies of radiation damage in uranium nitride

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Maria Giamouridou; [2023]
    Keywords : uranium nitride nuclear fuel; advanced nuclear fuel; uranium nitride fabrication; uranium nitride characterisation; Spark Plasma Sintering; proton irradiation; irradiation damage; TANDEM accelerator; irradiation induced cracking; irradiation induced hardening; irradiation induced swelling; hydrogen implantation; dislocation loops; kärnbränsle av urannitrid; avancerat kärnbränsle; tillverkning av urannitrid; karakterisering av urannitrid; Spark Plasma Sintering; protonbestrålning; strålningsskador; TANDEM-accelerator; strålningsinducerad sprickbildning; strålningsinducerad härdning; strålningsinducerad svällning; väteimplantation; dislokationsloopar;

    Abstract : The effect of proton (H+) irradiation on uranium mononitride (UN) and UN compositefuel with 10 at.% ZrN (UN10at%ZrN) was examined. Protons of 2 MeV with fluences of1E17, 1E18, 1E19 and 1E20 ions/cm2 were accelerated towards the fabricated samples in orderto investigate the evolution of the micro-structure. READ MORE

  2. 12. Additively Manufactured Rare Earth Free Permanent Magnets

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Tillämpad materialvetenskap; Uppsala universitet/Oorganisk kemi

    Author : Himesha Abenayake; [2023]
    Keywords : additive manufacturing; MnAl; MnAl C ; rare earth free permanent magnets; selective laser melting; SLM; MnAl-based permanent magnets;

    Abstract : It’s well known that MnAl(C) material consists of a metastable phase (τ) with promising ferromagnetic properties, produced either by controlled cooling from the high-temperature hexagonal ε-phase or rapid cooling that freezes the ε-phase followed by low-temperature annealing. Due to the high cooling rates involved, additive manufacturing (AM) especially selective laser melting (SLM), has been identified as a possible method to retain the high-temperature ε-phase, hence containing a potential capacity to produce permanent magnets upon low-temperature annealing. 3. 13. Synthesis and Characterization of Multi-component Metal Oxides based on Ru-Co-Mo as Oxygen Evolving Electrocatalysts

    University essay from Umeå universitet/Institutionen för fysik

    Author : Jonas Tejbo; [2023]
    Keywords : catalyst; metal-oxide; electrolysis;

    Abstract : Finding materials based on non-rare earth metals is vital for the global transition to a more sustainable economy. Discovering useful properties in common metal oxides is a promising avenue for new materials. READ MORE

  4. 14. Heteroepitaxial Growth of GaN Film on Si substrate by Magnetron Sputtering

    University essay from Linköpings universitet/Institutionen för fysik, kemi och biologi

    Author : Zahra Mohammadianrasnani; [2023]
    Keywords : GaN; Sputter epitaxy; Thin film;

    Abstract : In this study, the effect of AlN buffer layer structure and morphology on the GaN films deposited on Si (111) substrate by reactive DC magnetron sputtering have been studied. For structural and morphological characterization X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Scanning electron microscope (SEM) were used. READ MORE

  5. 15. Theoretical investigation of α-iron chromium carbide (α-Fe/Cr7C3) interfaces

    Abstract : This master thesis presents a theoretical investigation of the energy and stability of interfaces in iron-carbide compounds, specifically focusing on the α-Fe/Cr7C3 system. The study aims to fill the gap in knowledge regarding the surface energetics of these interfaces using Density Functional Theory (DFT). READ MORE
