Abstract: The aim of this study is to investigate all the advanced features in refrigeration system built in Division of Applied Thermodynamics and Refrigeration using CO2 as refrigerant. The main functions and features of the refrigeration system is explained and tested thoroughly and the components are analyzed and evaluated. The measured data of the refrigeration system is extracted through VNC interface, processed using Excel and Coolprop. The aim is to see whether the system and the component satisfy the specification agreed between supplier and the division, what control strategies are used the systems and how these strategies influence the system for existing problem identification and future usage and communication with the suppliers. A test matrix is defined to evaluate the capacity, defrost, simulation for summer and winter operation, ejector and heat recovery. Meanwhile, the operation mode and its regulation and the performance of temperature control, evaporator and compressors is also evaluated in this study. It was found the system have the flexibility for different operation mode, and the ability of controlling temperature either during normal cooling or defrost in each chamber. The capacity of the system under certain working settings is also tested, in which the system shows its capability to remove at least 24.5kW of thermal load. Future study can be suggested to focus on the interaction between ejectors and heat recovery, dedicated research can also be made on the low stage compressors.
