Designing & Implementing A Geospatial Mobile Application

University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; Lunds universitet/Ergonomi och aerosolteknologi

Abstract: Rephotography is the act of recapturing a historic photo from the same viewpoint and is a tool for studying change. This thesis explores the development, design and evaluation of a mobile application for rephotography of Smapshot photos. Rephotography would have to be based on sensors in smartphones and previous research has demonstrated a lack of accuracy when computing the orientation with these sensors. We implemented two techniques for rephotography: orientation angles of smartphones and transparency of Smapshot photos. Our findings shows that from a user perspective transparency is preferred, however orientation angles result in a more accurate re-creation of the historic photo.
