Abstract: A company specialized in designing and manufacturing computers and displays for off highway vehicles has historically combined the computer unit and display unit in the same housing. This is done since the display data is sent using parallel signaling, leading to heavy and expensive solutions when separating the units. This thesis will investigate the possibility of using a multimedia serial link to send the same data using one cable while still managing the rigorous electromagnetic and environmental requirements in the automotive industry The investigation involves identifying available circuits using two different multimedia serial link standards with features to be compliant with the company´s systems. The identified circuits will then be tested and evaluated on their ability to send data across 15m of cable. The links should allow a user to be able to use touch inputs on the display while still receiving HD resolution. The result shows that the multimedia serial links are capable of sending data across a 15m cable. The result also shows some difficulties when implementing the links on already existing systems. Multimedia serial links present capabilities desired by the company but require further testing.
