Finding a suitable and optimal amount of binder for refibering of acoustic boards

University essay from Lunds universitet/Centrum för analys och syntes

Abstract: With the ambition to contribute to a sustainable development, this project started with aim to recycle fiber boards. The idea behind the project is to take lose fibers that come from waste product or simply just worn out fiber boards, and make them into new fiber boards. In order to achieve this, a binder is needed to hold the boards together. The aim of this thesis was to evaluate different binders. Different properties of the boards were then evaluated to assess the binders. In this thesis both liquid and solid binders are evaluated. The questions that were investigated include: -Is it possible recycle and reuse fiber boards, by optimizing the binder? -Is there a significant difference on the environmental impact between a virgin and recycled product? The experiments showed that it is in fact possible to recycle and reuse fiber boards. The environmental impact is also less for recycled boards.
