Abstract: This thesis addresses the urgent global imperative of achieving carbon neutrality, with a specific focus on the relationship of environmental and economic concerns within urban freight transportation. The primary objective is to provide valuable insights and support to freight companies in Curitiba, Brazil, as they embark on a transition towards sustainable and eco-friendly mobility solutions. Conducting a comprehensive Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) that encompassed a range of electrification scenarios, including factors such as electricity pricing, policy support, and fleet composition, this research aimed to uncover the fundamental drivers and policies that could facilitate a seamless transition towards cleaner and more sustainable energy practices. This study offered an in-depth exploration of electrification strategies within the context of urban freight companies in Curitiba, providing insights into the complex interplay of costs, benefits, and environmental impacts in diverse scenarios. Its findings served as a valuable resource for both freight companies and policymakers, equipping them with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions for building a sustainable and carbon-neutral future for urban freight fleets, not only in Curitiba but also in urban centers worldwide. In summary, this thesis advanced our understanding of the complex dynamics surrounding economic feasibility, emissions reduction, policy design, and fleet composition in the context of urban freight electrification. It underlines the principal role of well-designed policies in shaping cost-effectiveness and paved the way for a more sustainable and economically viable future for urban freight fleets in Curitiba and beyond.
