  1. 1. Monte-Carlo response for mobile gamma spectroscopy in fallout affected residential areas

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Tillämpad kärnfysik

    Author : William Lindberg; [2021]
    Keywords : mobile gamma spectroscopy; SERPENT2; Monte-Carlo;

    Abstract : Historically, two nuclear power plant incidents have led to major releases of radioactive isotopes into the environment. In the unfortunate event that such an incident would occur in Sweden, the national emergency preparedness has set-up carborne detector systems which can be used to map radionuclides in fallout affected areas. 2. 2. Modeling The Temperature of a Calorimeter at Clab : Considering a Thermodynamic Model of The Temperature Evolution of The Calorimeter System 251

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Tillämpad kärnfysik

    Author : Johannes Ekman; [2021]
    Keywords : calorimetry; calorimeter; System 251; temperature evolution; spent nuclear fuel; SNF; MATLAB; SERPENT2; Clab; nuclear decay heat; calibration measurements; thermodynamic model; gamma escape fraction; mass correction; calibration measurements; electric heater; three component system; system of ordinary differential equations; eigenvalues; eigenvalue estimation; temperature increase method; polynomial approximation of mass correction; sensitivity of mass correction; calorimeter heat capacity; mass correction uncertainty; calorimeter calibration curve; monoenergetic gamma spectrum; curve fitting of temperature as function of time;

    Abstract : It is important to know the heat generated due to nuclear decay in the final repository for spent nuclear fuel. In Sweden, the heating powers generated in spent nuclear fuels are currently measured in the calorimeter System 251 at the Clab facility, Oskarshamn. READ MORE

  3. 3. Validation of the Westinghouse BWR nodal core simulator POLCA8 against Serpent2 reference results

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Mathilde Gaillard; [2021]
    Keywords : Nodal Core Analysis; Monte Carlo Methods; CBH Effects; Nodal kärnanalys; Monte Carlo-metoder; CBH-effekter;

    Abstract : When a new nodal core simulator is developed, like all other simulators, it must go through an extensive verification and validation effort where, in the first stage, it will be tested against appropriate reference tools in various theoretical benchmark problems. The series of tests consist of comparing several geometries, from the simplest to the most complex, by simulating them with the nodal core simulator developed and with some higher order solver representing the reference solution, in this case on the Serpent2 Monte Carlo transport code.
